Iona Junior College strikes again! By next year Siena will be back hopefully and Iona’s dynasty will collapse. It’s about time.

Roland Griffin is the player - since he's a senior, he's effectively done at Iona.

Isn't Ricky McGill still there? I would have thought he was the best player.

I would think this is a hoax... but it’s iona. Jeff Goodman reported it. He's a legit reporter. It's true.

Shame on the MAAC for letting IJC run such shady programs for so long. Additionally, IJC bears an even greater responsibility for putting basketball ahead of everything else. All programs bend the rules for good players with a sub-par academic record. That being said, there are probably a dozen schools nationwide who let kids in who most would characterize as being a menace to society and that is wrong.

I checked their board, some posters there making underhanded remarks about our program and fans, saying this sort of thing happens at Siena. Of course, there is the residue from the Patsos scandal, but that was the results of the actions of one man. There were a few posters that, although they are not happy losing the player, did applaud the administration's response to the incident.

Nope. Don't ever recall a coach having to go to the hospital as a result of a violent outburst by a player at Siena.

Iona is a private Catholic college which should espouse the principles inherent to the Christian Brothers. This kind of violent and decidedly un-Christian behavior should never be tolerated. The fact that It's not an aberrant action or a one-off act of violence makes it clear that the college just may be playing lip service to Christian ideals. I believe Iona has had a history of "problems" and players with runaway tempers. The question is why?

The last player coach fight I remember at Siena was Beyer & Gadot. But that wasn't even a fight, more of a threat to fight.

You have to wonder if Griffin will get reinstatement because he said he punched the coach in self defense.
Worth a shot, right?
