From what I have been told in recent days, Khalil Richard will be the team's point guard next to a pair of guards (likely some combo of Smithen, Bayer, and Pickett to start the year). Georges is progressing well, getting stronger and sounds like there's a good chance he's starting by season's end. Richard and Darwiche are the two guys they are looking at for the point guard position at this point.
What do you all want to see in the backcourt?

I’ll stick with who I initially predicted would be the 1st starting five from the other thread: Darwiche, Smithen, Pickett, Camper & Fisher. With this group I think we have three excellent defenders with all five capable of hitting 3’s. Insert Sammy for Fisher and I believe we get tougher in D and maybe loose a person at hitting 3’s (although if left side open Sammy can hit very nice jumpers). I’d recommend saving Richard as back-up PG who can also hit 3’a like a SG. Not that I understand the current info, I can see Richard starting because of experience and when Darwiche, is ready may take Richatd’s starting spot (based on the original post). Because the coach likes bigger line-ups, I could also see a front court of Camper, Fisher & Friday. Let’s put it this way, I believe this coach has many options.

Lol.... while Richard isn’t a true point guard and doesn’t work for a Patsos offense, he can be a a combo “lead guard” who spends a lot of time with the ball in his hands playing in PnR in the same mold that Junior Robinson did. He’ll then be flanked with a pair of secondary ball-handlers at all times who are capable passers (Elijah Long and Miles Wilson 2 years ago, Jonah Antonio and Donald Carey this past year, guys like Smithen, Pickett, and Bayer this upcoming season).
But the ball will be in Khalil’s hands a lot.

Based on my limited watching JCs system I don’t believe anyone will have the ball in their hands a lot. Once the ball crosses half court it’ll be constant movement (ball and players). In fact if a player dribbles/holds into the ball too long they seem to get called out on it and the “action” corrected with what the coaches expect.
Again, I haven’t watched/study MSM’s film but the one practice I watched had a premium on movement (ball/player). I don’t think there’s going to be too much dribbling or one specific “ball handler”. I could be wrong. Yes, we’ll have PGs and other ball handlers available to break presses and/or specific teams doubling certain Siena players so JC will have multiple ball handlers but I didn’t not see anyone me ball handler just dribbling too much w/I passing to cutter no guys. JMO.

Darwiche is an older guy but needs to adjust to the American game. Perhaps he starts off the bench and eventually is the starting PG. I think Richard would be more effective in a Tay Fisher role off the bench playing 15-18 minutes a game and shooting threes. This year the starters/playing time are almost impossible to project. We will have to see has the preseason goes on and the games early in the season.

Patsos tried to fit whatever player he had into a singular system, and never made the effort to either find the right players or adapt his system.

Just hope that ball and people movement along with the focus on shooting threes does not stop guys from taking advantage of an open lane, a mismatch, an opportunity to make a move on the dribble to go to the hoop for an easier two, to always pass this advantage up for the purpose of shooting a three?
If they do we better have a bunch of Steph's and not a bunch of Lonzo's.
Going to the hoop is and always will be an important part of the game so I just hope these guys will not stop seeing these open lanes because they have so much focus on the three.
Has to be a good mix of both to take what the game is giving you to be successful.

Opening up shooters for 3s, driving lanes and or easy baskets underneath. It will have to create more opportunities than the pass around the perimeter and hope a big gets open underneath then heaving a desperation 3 when the big option doesn’t materialize.

Isnt Kadeem still on the team? Id much rather have him run the point and get the ball into Richards, whos our best perimeter scorer, hands. He'll also set the tone defensively.

I'm not sure I can say this right but here goes. This conversation seems to focus primarily on the players who were here last year. That is reasonable except for the fact that we have a new coaching staff and new system. There are also some newcomers that have been recruited with that new system in mind and may be more able to adapt to it. I am going on the presumption that the new coach is better than our most recent one. His record indicates that and the record members of his staff have been associated with is impressive. I just think that it is premature to figure out what the team is going to look like. Its sort of like shooting darts in the dark.

I agree many of the new players seem like they can play in this new system. I just wouldn’t be surprised to see at least 2-3 of JPs recruits begging the season starting until the freshmen get some experience, I threw in two new guys in my starting line up for the first game. I truly believe JC will play 9-11 guys a game maybe 8-10 come conference play.
