11th is a fair pick,on paper we have nothing, Lost 4 of our top 6 players off a 8 win team. Can you say the cupboard was empty ? JP really screwed the program, very little talent and talent we had transferred out. MY point is this year could be a long year - dont "expect" a mid pack finish, I think it is without question the worst the program has EVER been left in. That being said... with a positive approach and buy-in from the entire roster ... this team will NOT finish in last place.

I don't disagree with Tony, but starting " anew" might be a blessing in disguise. I think his team might be more cohesive than the last few years and that accounts for a lot. I also think that this team may have more depth in talent than initially appears. I tend to be an optimist without going overboard. I don't think 7th or 8th place is farfetched.

Did we lose anyone when Mitch got fired? Certainly not 5, and 3 starters.

www.three-man-weave.com/3mw/maac-basketball-preview-2019Good preview. Siena picked 9th, with Jalen Pickett labeled as freshman of the year. Starting lineup projected as Richard/Smithen/Pickett/Fisher/Friday. Would be a little surprised if we play two bigs but JC did that a fair amount at MSM so if he trusts Fisher to space the floor some we might see that unit.

Admittedly, I just read the Siena stuff, but this looks like a well informed assessment of the Saints. Nice piece.

Too bad Rider isn't in any of the neutral site tournaments this year, they might have been able to get some quality wins on a neutral floor. Unfortunately for them VCU looks to be down this year so even winning there might not even be as good a win as winning at Hofstra. UCF looks to be good this year so they could have a big statement win in their opener if they could win down there. Obviously a win over West Virginia would be huge but would be extremely tough on the road. Winning at Drake and Washington State won't turn many heads but those are the sort of games they have to win to be in the at large discussion. They will pretty much need to go 9-2 in the non-conference to legitimately be in the at large discussion. Likely they will also need the MAAC to move back into the mid teens in the conference rankings.

Another good preview: cbbcentral.com/2018/10/17/32x32-2018-19-maac-preview/This one has Siena at 8, which is probably as high as anyone will pick us preseason. He notes that the bottom of the league is down (as we've said) and that one of the teams with a new coach (Marist, Siena, Saint Peter's) could sneak all the way up to this.

Kevin is going to be writing for a national publication some day. Talented young guy.
