The only names I can think if that absolutely need to be on the all time starting 5 are Marc Brown and Doremus Bennerman, and they both were scoring point guards. Tough place to start. Huge amount of talent piled up beneath those two transcendent type players. If Bennerman wasn't behind Marc for his freshman year, who knows what his numbers might have been. At the risk of blowing this thread to pieces, I truly believe Bennerman was better than Mark Brown. If they had to guard each other, who wins? Bennerman was so fast, it was crazy and a better shooter. Full disclosure, Siena Class of 1994.

poetzsch banks Matt Brady Tooles Williams
Bennerman Karangwa Mitchell Mcclinton Faison
Archbold Haddix Knapp Cantamessa Osinski

I liked McCoy too, but he wasn't better than Terwilliger. Nothing against either guy. Both were terrific. But if I had to pick one for a game I had to win, I'd have to go with Steve McCoy. I think his level of intensity, and chip-on-the-shoulder attitude, make the difference.

I've been watching Siena basketball games since 1962, and there had been no one even remotely like him until he came to Loudonville. He did things that fans couldn't believe, or get enough of. I think they're 1 and 1A, so I'll go with the one who was first.

I would throw Billy Harrell in the mix, though I was too young to see him live. We would need some REALLY OLDTIMERS, though they are dwindling, that could really shed light on his talent and accomplishments. He was a 6'3" guard who could play forward and probably center back in his era. I'd guess he was a lock down defender and rebounder who could jump literally out of the gym. Also, remember he didn't play the amount of games each season that this eras players compete in. I've been watching Siena hoops since 1954. My early favorite player at that time was Timmy Hill.

No chance.

Very interesting trip down memory lane. Jerry I saw Billy Harrell live. But I was too young to realize how great he was.. some of us Arbor Hill kids stood out in front of the Armory and carried gym bags in for the players. It got you in free. Later it grew into jobs chalking reserved seats for Leo Callahan and moping up water. I remember the Kelly brothers and also Gene Culnan who later became a star and head coach. I carried fot Ralph Fedullo,Tom Pottenburg and Myron Lotosky. Myron was very outgoing to us kids and remembered us years later. SIENA was and is a community thing.

Many of us senior citizens can go back forty years or more but this recollection is amazing. Great memory! Very impressive!

Thank you. Many of my body parts are on the decline.tThank GOD my mind and memory are in good shape. I see this season as a builder of more good memories. I am impressed with the way the new Mentor is leading us. As a snow bird I only see a few holiday games and a occasional southern trip. I hope to see some practice in late August and September ,if the coach opens up to us. 🤫 Mike Deane had a geriatric section that he took care of.
As a student we called Cuhna THE Mentor........some of us also gave the title to Billy Kirsch. Coach Clinton. Will be the 3rd Cooming. Thanks to my computer l will be with you. The Siena.com site is great. I know who has good info and who is peddling mush.

W99, I also carried players bags for free admission to games at the Armory. I know Culnan and the Kelly brothers well from playing sports against them and caddying at the Roost. I started watching Siena basketball when I was 11.

I'm jealous you guys lived so close. Our 7th grade basketball team went to the Armory to see Mt. St. Mary play Siena in, I think, the Catholic Invitational tournament. We won I believe. Let's see roughly 68 years ago. Tempus fugit.
