how scary is that with his previous hires? Let’s hope Paul Hewitt is pulling strings as this is the most important hire since Fran. This could be the future of the program since we have gone backwards!

I believe this will be Hewitt's and a few others call and not D'Arg's. D'Arg has been neutered.
This needs to be done by Friday. I get taking the time to get it right but it's getting late early. Time to get the coach on board and hopefully the rebuilding to start quickly thereafter!

Brother Ed should only be a rubber stamp.

Calm down with the arbitrary deadlines. Rushing got us into this mess.

Calm down with the arbitrary deadlines. Rushing got us into this mess. They aren’t arbitrary... Siena has at least 3 if not more roster spots to fill from a bad team and is missing hugely importantly recruiting time. I will be very disappointed if Siena doesn’t have a head coach in place by the end of the week. And we took 3 weeks to hire Jimbo, look how they turned out.

Plus, it’s too late now to worry about signing period. There will still be some viable players available in may. Make sure of the hire first, then worry about next years team.

You are absolutely right that the head coach is more important than the roster spots. But when the coach can’t get any impact guys for year 1, the team sucks again, the remainder of the core transfers out, and now you are left with a bunch of roster spots open late again in year 2 and team that has sucked for 2 straight years and hasn’t made the tournament in 9 years. You all will be calling for his head by then. Basically, you become Niagara with Casey. Casey is obviously not that good a coach and if you land the perfect guy, none of this matters. But you set up your guy for failure the longer you wait. Is it the end of the world? No. But it’s not good if it gets past this week.

I understand the impatience to know who will have the reins going forward but I think such a dismal look at next year based on the timing of this hire is a bit much.
W-L numbers next year should be the least of our concerns. This will be a major rebuild across the board - coach, staff, players, and us - the fan base. I'm excited not only to have a new coach but also to hopefully see a refreshing style of play that optimizes and continues the development of whatever players we have at the start of the season.
Thinking that a not so good year would cause our "core" to transfer out indicates some might be standing too close to the edge and not taking any steps back based on the changes ahead. Not even sure what our "core" is.
Our new HC will have to fill his staff openings and the known slots starting Day 1 - I doubt very much that he and his staff will have the time to also cull through the remaining kids to create yet another slot or more now.
I'm not even sure what the NCAA regs are re team practices now and after the end of classes. I do know coaches are prohibited from watching 5 on 5 "pickup" games live, rather using managers to set lineups, etc. for each game - I think the games can be filmed but I may not have that right.
Watching film of last year's "games" would be painful but an exercise they will have to endure to get some feel for what they have remaining. Hopefully the coffee maker is close at hand for those sessions...

The MP makes an excellent point regarding patience. Going to be a tough year for any coach, need to suck it up with the understanding that we will need to support said coach , the program and school.
Br. Ed being the rubber stamp. Seems that Br. Ed is a very intelligent thoughtful man. Kudos for finishing up bringing the nursing program and Masters program to Siena under is tutledge. I think , IMO Br. Ed , is not as capable as he would like to be regarding athletics and has relied on others for advice and inspiration. While none of us can read his mind, think it’s safe to assume he learns from experience and hopefully relying on many others for the next step for Siena hoop. He likes us knows how important this hire is. At this point have to believe the school is using a committee and not just one person. Need to get this right.

Can anyone clarify what the final product is from a search firm. I was of the belief that they would produce a top 3 or so list and all of the vetting materials and then a selection would be made from that list by Siena - I would guess a committee then would make the final recommendation and that would go to the Administration. Is it possible the search firm says "Hire X" and Siena goes with it? That concept scares me!

Last week it was debated , hotly at times rather their was a search committee or D’arg was going to make the decision unilaterally. Admittedly it revolves around D’arg future at the institution. As a fan of history, and what we can learn from it, important in this decision.

A couple things nobody seems to be thinking of: Just as Prince, et al may be transferring out there are countless others looking to do that same or be released from the LOI or looking for a good spot to play their senior year at schools across the country; Our yet to be named coach has a list of recruits he has been tracking and it is likely some of them for whatever reason have not yet signed and; We don't know who coach will bring on staff and what recruiting connections they have.
Not saying I expect them to bring in a new roster of great players in the next couple months but I would be somewhat surprise if they can't bring in a couple contributors during that time. Then with a full year to recruit to Siena and THEIR program I expect at least 2-3 All-MAAC type recruits to enroll at Siena for the '19-20 season. Although it is still somewhat uncertain the future is still looking much brighter than it was a couple weeks ago.
