A lot of those fans won't be back regardless. Therefore they need to make sure they get it right or the problem will compound, even if it means waiting. Why would you a say that? You think the program can take another year of JP? . Yes... obviously if they had the money to pay off patsos and hire a dynamite coach I’d be all for that. But to fire him now and hire a cheap coach makes no sense —- we’ll just be having this same thread in two years with no end in sight... the fans are gone next year no matter who is coach... the idea that Siena will keep its existing fan base and raise prices to cover the cost of the buyout is preposterous. let me ask you this— if you had to choose between perpetual .500 seasons or two 10 win seasons followed by two NCAA trips what would you choose? In the absence of real financial commitment learn from this mistake, let the contract play out and then go for a big splash hire when ready.

Siena's last two big splashes turned into painful belly flops - no diving coaches seen on the horizon - bottom line - same old, same old - might be smart to buy Women's Season Ticket and hope those seat holders are given first priority when the men's team completes its trip downhill and comes back to the ARC...

That’s a defeatist view imo. The program has made several decent hires albeit over a decade ago. The quick fix way is almost guaranteed to fail ... whereas paying the right amount for the right hire could pay off huge dividends down the road.

My opinion has been all along...hire the right coach and you'll be back. You keep shooting yourself in the foot but I don't believe you are close to blowing your own foot off. MTS likes you spout off how it's the end of the program etc. but you are one good hire away from turning it around. Your budgets are still very good for mid-major hoops and your attendance even if it takes a dip is still exceptional considering the product. Before the next hire comes around you MUST get rid of the failed person/process that has given you Mitch and Patsos back to back. The train will come around again...get a different conductor. You guys will be alright, albeit the board may not be as entertaining when you get the right guy.

All good posts. Looking at it in reality, the money involved is not that great. Negotiated out, yes the whole enchilada is going to be paid out if fired should be doable. Thoughts should be what is going on behind the scene, hence the silence. Are their donors who are willing to put up monies, of course but what is their coast. Darg, sure hope so, change in admin, BOT, most likely. Face it the school has been run poorly by the admin over last 8-10 years. Can’t argue that.
School basically break even firing JP, eating salary, negotiated or losing fan support, advertising marketing. IMHO
