Like most games Siena came out playing hard, hung around till middle of 2nd half when other team pulls away. Just not enough talent, too many role players. Last night’s loss puts Siena tied with SPC and Marist for last place in MAAC. With 7 wins So-so needs to go 3-3 over last 6 games to get to 10 wins, sorry don’t see it 1 maybe 2 wins tops. Next 3 Canisius Iona and Rider looks like all 3 are double figure losses The end of the season is rapidly approaching- sorry to say it can’t get here quick enough for me. Frustrating part is this horrible season is self-induced by So-so failure to recruit last few years- he was too busy with off season vacation and Darg let him get away with it www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Stags-wear-down-Siena-D-12553957.php

Can't disagree with the we lack talent part of the discussion but it's obvious that this team, to a man, is not conditioned to play a full game - running out of gas is not a talent issue. Paul had the conditioning philosophy that got us many W's - be stronger that the other guy and the last 5 minutes will turn or hold the tide. We just fall on our face late due to the conditioning deficit and piss poor coaching - if the talent we have keeps us "in" the game for 30 minutes....well you get the drift - I think our kids get their endurance challenged just by the subbing in and out process - that has to take away energy, both mental and physical, and it shows.

Agreed with most of the above but let's be fair...no starting point guard, lost possibly the best player on the team in Clareth, missing the next best shooting guard in Horn. C'mon!
That said, it wasn't going to change the outcome of this season. If everything broke right we'd probably have a few more W's and would probably avoid the PIG round of the MAAC which we likely won't now. Still, this wasn't going to be a great, or even a good year.

biggest red flags on the recruiting trail were either ignored purposely or due to pure ignorance .... when the vast majority of the recruits had little to no other D1 offers and couple that with the mass exodus of returning players... youve got some REAL evidence of failure. The results on the court are simply the final bit of proof. Make no mistake about it... D'Argenio, who is signing off on the recruits MUST be held accountable for the numbers of kids signed with little to no other D1 offers.

Clareth was the only MAAC level player on the team. The rest are all bench players AT BEST and most wouldnt even get a sniff at this level. The talent level is so watered down that it really doesnt matter who is injured and who isnt. Horn being out... makes no difference. While Penn could be argued ... the results were still quite similar with him on the floor. The games were ugly before any injuries/transfers occurred. And remember... this is a DOWN MAAC year and Siena is this bad

When the team lost to LeMoyne (D2) the stage was set for a disastrous season. Lose Nico, experience some injuries as will happen over the course of a season and you have a year that turns into that disaster. Are any of us really surprised by the way this season has gone?

People don't want to hear but I'll say it again - imploding like this is the best thing that could happen. They probably were looking for a reason to bring Jimmy back and there won't be any (assuming Siena wants to remain a viable D1 program)

To some degree I agree with you but the injuries to Richard and Horn followed by losing Penn for the season...it saved Mitch. Just sayin'

Just sayin' Mitch was only in his second year and he won 14 games that year. Completely different situation.

If Horn plays with Richard running the show the Saints would have won this game. Just needed a shooter out there for Richard to pass to. Team shot poorly... Horn would have made a difference. Richard was fine as a replacement for Penn

Richard was fine as a replacement for Penn Siena shot 42% from 3 and 48% from the field, both are above our season average. Do you even watch the games? Obviously Horn would have helped: no team in college basketball is going to win without their 3 best guards (Nico, Horn, Penn). But why do you even pay attention to the team if all you care about is Khalil Richard???
