Rumblings around the arena that D'Argenio could be retiring after this year. Anyone have any confirmation or further information?

"You can't fire me...I retire!!!" It would be the "graceful" way out, and seems only fair to the program and the school.

If D’Arg is retiring, JP probably stays another year. You can’t hire a new MBB coach and then hire a new AD- the new AD should get to have large say in a new HC and find someone that he can work well with.
If this were happening, D’Arg should have announced it about 2-3 weeks ago that he was leaving at the end of the year (June 30). Then there would have been enough time for a new AD to be hired by early March, meet JP, and make a decision on his future to still have enough time to fire him.

If D'Arg really is retiring no need to saddle the next AD with Patsos. Any AD with a brain knows he needs to go. If you HIRE the AD after the coach so be it. I'm not getting my hopes up on D'Arg though....and if he retires in March that really will be one final FU to Siena.

You can’t give a new AD a brand new coach he didn’t choose, and more importantly you are going to have all kinds of trouble hiring a coach (getting a good coach you want) when you don’t know who the AD is. AD before coach.

I'd ask D'Arg to wait to announce it now or wait until the fall (if he really is leaving) and just go back to the committee to pick the next coach (like they did with Hewitt and McCaffery). The AD is not that prominent but the head coach is. No way you can sell this guy to your fan-base another year after this embarrassing season.

The AD is not that prominent but the head coach is. No way you can sell this guy to your fan-base another year after this embarrassing season. It’s not about the “committee” choosing the coach. The AD is the coach’s boss, they work together on all sorts of things. They run point together on fundraising, they work on scheduling, they work on program vision/plan, they deal with player discipline. What coach who has other good options is going to choose Siena when he doesn’t know who that guy will be? It would be a mistake IMO to hire a new coach before an AD. I don’t want to keep JP, and honestly I don’t want to keep D’Arg. I’m just not sure how you do this right. The end goal is getting a really good coach and a really good AD. But if D’Arg stays for a year and a half more then the new coach can be hired by committee, set the groundwork, and then you hire a new AD.
