I look at Brad Stevens as the coaching ideal. Calm, collected, competitive, analytical, positive reinforcer, humble, and charismatic. I'd say that 10 games a year were won by him for Butler. He was their best 'player'. He knows the stats, he knows the tendencies, and he knows how get his teams to work it to their advantage. All those points that I feel Jimmy loses for us just on decision making...a guy like Stevens doesn't. He generally wins the 'coaching margin' most games. He's like a 6th man that's always on the court. Jimmy interprets this as he should actually be standing on the court. that one year during our STELLAR run, we played that bracketbuster game at Hinkle, which was the marquis match up for that event of all mid-majors in the country...........we led at halftime, but adjustments by Stevens changed the outcome to a Butler victory..................

Think your %'s are way off. Look at a guy like Brad Stevens and what he did at Butler. He took largely mid-major players and turned them into a championship caliber team. If you think guys like Willie Veasley, Zach Hahn, Ronald Nored, Chase Stigall etc..were superstars...you'd be wrong. Brad Stevens was the most valuable guy on that team even the 2 years they had Gordon Hayward. He made decisions that won games for them. He knew his opponents better than they knew themselves. the GREAT John Wooden was quoted as saying the college game is ALL about coaching while the NBA is ALL about the players.............. From Wikipedia: Yahoo! Sports compared Stevens to legendary coach John Wooden writing "Brad Stevens is winning at Butler the Wooden way – calm and composed on the sideline." Wooden agreed, saying, "I enjoy watching [Stevens] and very much enjoy [Butler's] style of play."

Then they took that away and Moore ended the game 0-9 because they dared him to shoot.

Butler only shot 34.2% from three that year. It wasn't THAT prolific. 9 of 11 MAAC teams THIS year are shooting better than that. And #10 is Quinny who is now at 34%. Hayward only shot 29.4% from three. Butler beat you the same way those Siena teams beat you...only they did it better. Get to the FT line more than your opponent, take care of the ball, and defend. This is why I credit Stevens so much...statistically speaking those teams weren't ELITE at anything really....except defending great without fouling....and then getting to the FT line themselves. Butler's PPS was a huge 1.40 that year because of their FTs...tied for 8th in the nation. This is why focus I on this.

As an aside, I was 2 of 3 from the Hinkle FT line just before practice - the bulldog was awesome (as was the cute little cheerleader tasked with keeping him happy) - it was a great trip

I’d like to point out the Patsos is a freaking genius. Hes bilked the Siena Family for a small fortune over his tenure without producing. How gullible are we, the alum and the admin? It’s ridiculous that this huckster has pulled the wool over all our eyes while padding his vactioning ass bank account. If he’s fired this year good riddance JP, if not, good riddance Siena basketball because this program is doomed.
JP take your money, your severance and get the hell out of Loudonville.

I get up way to early ..... I’m slurring my fingers.

I agree the program is DEAD and may NEVER recover if they bring him back even for one more year. Hope they're not shortsighted - bite the bullet and eat the money now. Because the lost money in the long run will be a lot worse. Here's the most incredible stat this season - Patsos has ZERO technicals this year (not counting his ejection in the exhibition game). That doesn't mean he's settled down it means IMO that he's given up and checked out and I think he's been checked out for a while now - counting his money all the way to the bank!

Not long after they played Butler I remember Fran in the coaches poll ranked Butler 2nd overall in the country. I remember him being criticized for it and some posters saying he was trying to boost Siena's RPI etc for possible at large if necessary at the end of the year. Butler then went on to the national championship game which didn't make it seem foolish later on
