We’ve now played 5 MAAC games without Nico, so I figured I’d take a look at the numbers to see how guys are playing in his absence/how the freshmen look against MAAC opposition.
Roman Penn has struggled a bit, I know he tweaked that knee against Niagara so he may not be 100% but his shooting has suffered. In 5 games he’s averaging 33 mpg, 7.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg, and 3.4 apg on .400/.250/1.000 shooting. 1.2 steals per game.
Jordan Horn has exploded onto the scene. Double figures in all 5 contests and scoring efficiently despite being forced into some tough shots. In 5 games he’s averaging 32.6 mpg, 17.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg, and 2.2 apg shooting .459/.485/.750. Unbelievable how much better he looks. He’s literallg been better than what Nico provided other than how much gravity Nico had.
Thomas Huerter Has definitely gotten the biggest jump in minutes. He’s played 23 minutes per game and doing lots of little things for us as a 4 man. Averaging 4.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.6 apg and 1.6 blocks per game). Slashing .600/.500/1.000 which is amazingly efficient.
Prince Oduro has strung together some solid performances. Like we said he is very up and down but when he’s up I’m not sure there’s a big in the MAAC that can stop him. He’s also been a bit more efficient in MAAC play which is good to see. Averaging 12.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg, and 0.2 bpg in just under 25 minutes per night while slashing .549/.000/.421 (IMPROVEMENT FROM THE STRIPE!!!)
Evan Fisher has continued his serviceable play as a versatile offensive option. He’s averaging about 27 minutes per game and is averaging 9.4 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and .8 blocks per game while shooting .552/.250/.813. This was pretty much the best case scenario for what Fisher would give us coming into the season, so props to him for becoming a useful role player.
Up and down we go with Ahsante Shivers. We know he can play but there are nights where he goes out and looks like he couldn’t be a D3 player. His averages are skewed by last night’s basically DNP But he’s at 22.8 mpg, 7.6 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.4 apg, and 2.2 turnovers per game while shooting .485/.143/.833.
Khalil Richard is Khalil Richard. Stats are skewed with the 2 minutes against Canisius and the DNP against Manhattan (not counted towards stats). 15.5 mpg, 5.3 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1 turnover per game while shooting .348/.400/.500.
And finally Kadeem Smithen has re-entered the rotation with the departure of Nico and is doing what he does well. Playing 13.3 mpg, averaging 3.0 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 1.2 apg while protecting the ball (0.2 turnovers) and slashing .333/.333/1.000.
That to me is and should be our 8 man rotation. Horn is the primary scorer, Penn the distributor, Shivers or Smithen going back to being the starting 3 and focusing on driving to the rim and doing the little things. Prince, Fisher, and Huerter in a frontcourt rotation, and Richard coming off the bench to shoot like crazy.

Penn's value exceeds his stats but interesting that his assists are up while scoring is down. Kind of thin data, one big scoring game will put him back to season average (let's hope it is sunday) Believe your rotation is the same one I put forth earlier. Hope JP sticks with it as they play well together.

Where can I get what you're drinking. Almost every team has someone that can handle Prince quite easily.

Where can I get what you're drinking. Almost every team has someone that can handle Prince quite easily. When Prince is rolling he dominated Rokas Gustys, who is a stud at Hofstra and better than any big in the MAAC. He dominated UMass in a secret scrimmage who has a really good Center. Same with Niagara. When Prince is in a groove in the post you can’t handle his strength (unless your strategy is to put in a walk-on and play hack-a-Prince). What do you have against this kid? He’s averaging 13 and 4.5 on 55% shooting in the last 5 games.

uhhh he dominated Gustys? Gustys had 18 points 15 rebounds. What helped in that game is Siena decided to pack in the paint giving Oduro help and let a cold shooting hofstra launch threes. Many of those threes were wide open. Hofstra went 9 of 34 good for .265%.

What is the teams records since Nico left? That is the most important stat in my opinion. Different players are getting more minutes, so if they have any capabilities, their stats will improve. Bottom line this team has a lot a similar players with similar level of skills and talent. In the end not enough of either to win games in the MAAC, IMO.
