I have done a lot of reading of the board this year, not much posting. I understand everyone's position on JP and agree. I am not a JP fan, either, but I want to start a different kind of thread.
Please name your favorite player on this year's team and tell us why. I am going to start with Smithen and here is why: a) kid is willing to take a charge b) he plays with energy and passion - loved his throwdown Friday night! c) he is willing to stand up to JP (gets himself in doghouse for games on end) d) he works hard every minute he is on the court
Who is the player you root for the most?

Great thread. Probably take heat for this but I enjoy Nico Clareth the most. He’s the best player we have and has the most potential to impact the game and win a championship. I disagree vehemently with not starting him it puts us in holes at the start of games and leads him to press even harder than he usually does. He brings passion, emotion, energy and although I don’t know him personally still stays out of trouble for the most part. Hope he gets to the postseason at least once before he’s done.

Nico... only because he can will you to a win. And he's very talented. I'm sorry glue/role guys are great and you certainly need them but he's the only guy that could play on Fran's teams. I blame his out of control stuff on the coach. McCaffery and Hewitt (and Deane) would make him much more in control or he would not play. I don't believe he has a low basketball IQ - it only looks that way because he's not being coached up properly.

Not sure I have a fave since the majority of the roster is so young. Nico is so much fun to watch at times. His athleticism is off the charts. When he plays in rhythm it is sweet music.

Love Penn. Plays hard, leads, makes his shots, protects the ball, and just has an infectious personality that rubs off on his teammates especially when the team is making a run. Just a fun kid to watch play.

The thread is "favorite" not best so I will go with Horn...no what happens he always seems to give his all...he might miss three shots in a row but will be in there fighting for the next rebound

Evan Fisher. Even though he lacks skills and athleticism he works his ass off and communicates on the floor. Sometimes it's hard to be a leader when you're not talented, but he does the best he can, and as a fan, I appreciate that.

That’s really a tough question to answer. I’ll go with Horn cuz that’s who I find myself rooting for the hardest. Probably because his body fat percentage is closer to mine than any other player.

Nico for sure. He's not afraid to be great or fail while trying. That's what a lot of you fail to realize. You think he should only be at his best at all times, and if he's not put the blame on the coach. Nico is also taking up the game of golf, he has the right attitude to play well you can't be great every round and some days you have to tip your cap because someone else was better.

Nico without a doubt. However I'm afraid we've lost him already this year. Needs to be starting so he can get his head back into the game.

A wonderful way to encourage your captain!!! He needs to start and he needs to listen to the coach. He is clearly the best player on the team. If we can get those two things together we have a chance to win some games.

Nico is my favorite. I don't know what he was promised to stay, but feel very badly that he is wasting away his junior year being yo-yo'd in and out at the worst times, there's NEVER a reason to have him in the bench with the game on the line needing only a bucket. I hope to God that kid still has enough pride left that he would have done everything to get to the rim. No slight against the others, they are all a fustercluck product of the man at the top.

Penn simple - Workman like performance night in night out, all business, all action, no talk & no show. He’s what we use to call “clutch”. Seems to always be there with a bucket when needed. Kids a leader. His play says it all, he’s one kid I hope sticks around after Rex is finally shown the door.
