Rex loses another priority / target, this time to UA. It's getting increasingly evident Jimmy can't get it done on the recruiting trail. Question is, why?
UVM beat us like a drum now UAlbany.

Exactly, move on to the next target, you can't get every kid you are recruiting especially if a parent went to the school you're in competition with.

It was maybe 5% of the reason. That's not why you lost the battle for this kid. The fact of the matter is Siena under this regime is not a program kids flock to... I'm not trying to be mean. By de Sousas own admission, he felt very comfortable with the team, system and how he was going to be used. Paper isn't signed yet... But UA and coaches worked hard to get him. Few schools out work UA on the recruiting trail. You won't find brown on vacation during spring open period.

The key to winning at this level is having a game plan and effectively recruiting to execute that game plan. Individual recruiting losses don't matter as long as the game plan gets effectively executed in the end.
You just keep working.

This kid doesn't want to be a stretch 4 I'm assuming so if you're telling him that or he's looking at your teams stretch 4 and compares to his size then he's turned off but if another school says your playing the 3 for us that's what we see you as then your mom went there and we know mothers rule. But like the kid said the system and other stuff fit therefore he's happy I'm happy why have a kid that doesn't fit your system but we'll see come November sign baby sign

Recruiting is a funny “business” losing any one kid is not a big deal, but ultimately a head coach has to be able to sign a good pct. of his priority targets. Not sure why anyone is surprised by DeSousa signing with UA. This staff seldom wins a recruiting battle, not sure if it’s a personality thing, a work ethic thing or combination of all. But recruiting is definitely a problem for this staff. If you want to be a top team in the MAAC you have to be able to sign good talent, many times in a competitive situation. 5 years now and this staff have not shown ability to deliver. Way too many head scratching moves on recruiting trail. Just work hard and move on to next “target”

Not sure if thats the HC's fault, or the assistants? Iati and Pelliter are doing a great job at UA, thats for sure, but Tibbs at UVM has them all beat.

Problem with this regime (and this is the biggest issue as I see it) is that I don't see a system or recruiting to fit a system. Look at Will B and Becker. It's plug and play. They clearly have system and they find kids that fit. Consistently. Patsos and company not so much.

There is a system, Schizophrenia. Listen to 1 interview and most questions about JP should be answered. Focus would seem to be lacking.

I don't disagree, but where does the buck stop? IMO, it does not appear to be a great work ethic starting at the top. That is, have a consistent system/strategy and get out there to execute. Agree that someone said, missing out on a couple is no big deal, but it seems like we get beat out on most of our high priorities and consistently settle for our 2nd and 3rd targets. I go back to the kid we lost to while JP was on vacation in Vietnam(?). That seemed like a poor effort at a critical time.

If Nash was an aberration it wouldn’t be a big deal, it’s a pattern with this staff. They consistently miss out on top priorities. It’s been 5 years only so long you can blame it on assistant coaches, eventually the blame lands at feet of head coach. Hey we all like vacation, and D1 head coach works a lot of hours between October and March - but in off season other D1 head coaches are pounding the recruiting “beat” our head coach is in Ireland ( twice) Vietnam- Cape Cod, Saratoga race track etc etc. I think you just have to accept this head coach and staff will never be good recruiters- he will have Saints competitive most years- but if you are looking to be a consistent top tier MAAC program this head coach isn’t the man to bring you there. He just doesnt recruit at level required to accomplish that goal. If you want to win between 10 and 18 games a year, Jimmy is your man - and that's no diss look at his career record. There is a reason why he never won MAAC regular season and MAAC tourny only once

This coach, and apparently by extension, his staff lacks the ability to focus let alone look at the future - we are so out of balance it is almost criminal. His crosshairs have been calibrated to "It's all about the MAAC" and the MAAC ties up his months of December into, sadly, very early March. That leaves 8 months to play and we all know he like to play....we should be thankful he puts out some efforts late summer and fall.

He did not want to compete with players returning to a team in a better conference. Would be my guess
