So Penn, who seems very energetic on the court and Patsos says is very motivated, had to be convinced at how good the MAAC was after going up against Wright in practice.
And he and Horn are going toe to toe. Sounds rough.
These are 2 guys who are both adaptable with the ball and who, on paper, can shoot. In my experience those guys are the ones who end up pretty good. I'm not too worried. They've both passed Smithen who was serviceable at the PG. I think they're BOTH 10+ pt and 3-4+ assist guys, if not this year then down the line.
Maybe individually they aren't on Wright's level yet but as a tandem, I think they can be quite solid.
If Siena's biggest problem is who is ROY and who is 6th man of the year, I'm feeling pretty good.

"Penn and Horn will see immediate playing time in the backcourt, where they will join Clareth, Shivers, and Fairfield transfer Kevin Degnan in the starting five, according to Patsos. Evan Fisher and incoming freshman Prince Oduro, who helped Canada win the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup gold medal last month, will round out the Saints' rotation alongside sophomore Khalil Richard, with Sammy Friday and Tom Huerter, Jr. competing for minutes as well. "
This is the block from the piece that I found most interested. Is it possible we are thinking about a starting lineup of Penn, Horn, Clareth, Shivers, Degnan (that's how the piece reads to me). That's a super intriguing lineup to me if Degnan can clean the glass. Then we have Oduro & Fisher giving us minutes off the bench up front.
Also telling that Smithen isn't even mentioned. I'm disappointed if he's the guy that gets boxed out of the rotation over Richard. Horn can be that scoring guard, is rather the final guard in the rotation be one who brings defensive energy and quickness. But, if Smithen's offense is still ugly I can understand It.

That won't make Degnan happy, he came here cause he didn't want to play the center position. I think we will see that lineup quite a bit but think we will go more conventional for the starting lineup by opening day and will start another big with Horn coming off the bench. Like we all know from past years, there will be 20 more starting lineups thrown out there by Jimmy in interviews over the next two months.

Like we all know from past years, there will be 20 more starting lineups thrown out there by Jimmy in interviews over the next two months. Starting to flesh out exactly as suspected. Penn & Horn are both too good to keep off the floor...Patsos already pushing the 4 guard lineup. Rumors that Patsos thinks Shivers is going to play like 35-38 mins a game. That alone tells you all you need to know about the big man rotation. It might be just Degnan and/or Oduro most of the time. I think after a couple games either Patsos realizes Degnan is more suited to be 6th man than Oduro or he'll shift Horn or Shivers back into that role. I would think the main other guy to play the 4 would be Degnan. Not sure you want both Shivers and Degnan tired at the same time....unless Jimmy has eyes for Heurter. Still, Penn, Horn, Clareth, Shivers, and Degnan is our best/most versatile scoring 5...and may be the end of game lineup. I'm a little disappointed though about the lack of discussion of Bentley and Smithen in at least defensive roles...but it's just a small quote. Maybe Jimmy wants to drop threes all day by bringing in yet another shooter in Richard. That would make 6 of your top 8 who can hit the 3.

We have some good options in the backcourt flexibility like i said in a previous post you can spread the court and any of these guards can attack and kick out to shooters all these guards can shoot Horn Nico Richard Penn and from reports Shivers is shooting the ball good also Degnan that's lethal

I'm not saying we rely on 3s but evenif we give up a easy 2 in the interior that's still plus 1 for us but these guards are athletic enough that rebounding shouldn't be a problem plus you won't play this small lineup majority of game unless your rebounding at same pace and there's no advantage for the other team then they'll adjust going small and i doubt some schools in conference have guard depth like ours

I think Degnan's issue with Fairfield playing him at the 5 was that he was being forced to play down low on offense. I'd imagine we'd be playing 5 out on offense with Degnan at the 5. Imagine the spacing that would give for Nico and Shivers to drive to the rim...... I still think Oduro is probably our best bet at the 5 but we'll see what happens.

Um...is Richard still here? I spend a lot of time with horses this month so I've lost track....pardon the pun!

The only chance this team has of being a good rebounding team is if Oduro, Degnan, and Friday play a fair amount together.
If that's not feasible, which it may not be, you start thinking abandoning the 2 big lineup altogether. This team would then need to focus on winning primarily via turnover margin differential and winning the transition battle.
Jimmy's teams draw fouls so hopefully his focus on this aspect and a spread floor offense will make up for the lack of post depth. Still, I feel you would need a Bentley or a Smithen involved to give real credibility to your perimeter D.

Sounds like as of now the starters are Penn, Horn, Nico, Shivers and Degnan - in the rotation Prince, Fisher, Richard, Friday, Huerter.
Not mentioned Bentley and surprisingly Smithen. Of course Camper is RS.
Looks like we'll go small there are plus and minuses to that. We have to shoot the ball well and make 3's (Papi) also have to run and press a lot.

When you have 2 guards on the floor that can start your offense that should make you a faster team in transition your not waiting to get the ball to one person not only that if they rebound they can run even more last year when marquis rebounded and guys ran the floor easy buckets with this team if these guards rebound it should translate to easy buckets takes pressure off if you go small lineup

A lot of our ability to go small next year will depend on how much Nico wants to rebound. He had 10 games last year with 2 or less rebounds. He also had four games with 8 or more rebounds. When he wants to he can be one of the better rebounders on the court with his athleticism. If he's content to stay on the perimeter and let the other guys do the dirty work while he rests up for offense then that small lineup is going to get killed on the boards.
