That must be why Mississippi valley state gets all the best recruits since they play 8 or more power schools on the road to start every season lol.

Didn't Monmouth schedule the following in 2015-2016: Beat UCLA, Notre Dame, USC, Georgetown, Rutgers, Lost to USC and Dayton. All on the road or neutral site. I think going 5-2 again, on the road or neutral, against power conference schools gets you better than an 8 win season, don't you? They got their first home game on December 13th that year. You want play with the big boys, play like a big boy, not a sissy. Telling a recruit "yeah, we play little sisters of the Poor, Sisters of Mercy, Sisters of Perpetual Motion... you know all schools we can beat, versus telling the same higher level recruit, we play 4 or 5 games a year against power conference teams where you can show your stuff..... which one gets you the recruit? Three of those games were because they were the MAAC representative in the Old Spice Classic so that certainly helped with the difficult schedule. They played 7 "up games"... take away those three (they went 2-1) and that still leaves 4 games, all on the road, where they went 3-1. I am not advocating playing 7 games away from home against power conference teams but I could certainly see 3 or 4, and certainly no "cupcakes" at home "to build confidence". I liked Fran's attitude of "we'll play anybody, anywhere" however. You become good by believing you are good.

You cannot seriously be comparing the SWAC with the MAAC, are you? Or MVS to Siena? Add to that, MVS is one of the poorest colleges in the nation. They really have no choice but to play guarantee games. The SWAC's HIGHEST ranked RPI team was Prarie View at #248 most were over 300. Even one as snide as you cannot be that stupid.

Substitute MVS with Mount St Marys. Pretty sure the new coach will tell you he would prefer a balanced schedule featuring competitive, winnable home games early in the season over 10 OOC road games every year. Let's not forget, Monmouth had that great OOC and still could not take care of business in the MAAC tourney and ended up in the NIT. And, if the best selling point a Mid major has is that they play bunch of Majors on the road, that mid major likely doesn't have a whole lot else going for it.

Please stick to the facts. Not sure when you had that lengthy sit down discussion with the coach that enables you to say you are pretty sure of anything on his part other than your opinion. I know the proud Siena alumni point to "fan support" and the TUC, but the team plays in a 2/3 empty TUC. Upper tier mid-major ("elite" is the term the coach used) players can play at a lot of places that average 5,000 fans (even when there are only 3,000 fannies in the seats). Then there is the local press coverage driven by that fan support. They are not getting written up in The NY Times. Generally, nondescript, middling newspapers in a middling to small media market. Lots of mid-majors do as well in that department. It doesn't really set Siena apart. The school itself, is a small, limited offerings, liberal arts college (but improving), no one is going to confuse it with Vermont or even Albany State. So what else does Siena have "going for it"? Other than a seeming charasmatic coach, which is a huge factor. Would love to see your list.

That was a one-time only aberration done specifically to help a team transitioning to D-I, and as a favor to a coaching friend.

re: Fran, like when he played NJIT twice in one season? That was a one-time only aberration done specifically to help a team transitioning to D-I, and as a favor to a coaching friend. That was done to give a young team 2 wins and confidence. Fran was smart, no sense in playing a killer schedule if you don’t have team to back it up- as the team improves over next few years I expect the schedule to “improve”

As of yesterday, we still need three home games to complete the schedule and provide the season ticket holders with fourteen home games (nine MAAC games plus Lehigh and Charleston and three TBA). It appears highly unlikely that one of them will be Albany. Drop date is quickly approaching and at this point may be to late...Siena being completely unreasonable and to big for the britches has cost the community this game. It's not reasoable to expect Albany to always go to the TUC where Siena has home-court advantage.

If the game is for the community, there is no point in playing it in an arena with 4,500 or so seats. If the game is not for the community, there is no need to play it.

Once this thread moved into the already beaten to death Albany Cup discussion, I stopped paying attention. Not just because it has been discussed ad nauseam, but because there is so much other cool stuff going on that warrants my attention. Just sayin'.

With all this Siena, Albany State TU business I've lost track of the Non League schedule except for the tournament. Does anyone know what's been scheduled so far?
