BM - Paul was decent but he didn't hold a candle to Fran or even Mike Deane IMO. He pulled Siena out of the Beyer era readily enough but under achieved his last year. There were plenty of wins during his tenure but I don't recall many big wins. We did get to the dance but I recall an unfortunate matchup with Arkansas. I don't recall his recruiting being bad but it wasn't great either.
The one knock on both Fran and Paul is that neither would be hungry after the rather large payouts they would both be sitting on. I'd prefer a fresher face. It's all risk though. They really should be on the phone with the Xavier AD to find out what their secret formula is.

I was going with the class act aspect. That is a given with Hewitt. Winning is a risk no matter what direction you go.

The best bet for this fan base is to wait until Fran gets canned at Iowa and to get him to return. Even with that if wins don't come immediately Fran would be on the hot seat. There is no guarantee that the return to the mid major level is going to go smoothly. Ask Paul Hewitt. That said, having Paul return to represent Siena would be good in and of itself. He is a class act. Please "this fan base". You are also on record requesting a change. Again there are plenty of coaches out there that could bring life back to the program, and it won't take long to do it if they are good, that has been proven multiple times here. The question is at what cost--/ if waiting a few years gets the program financially stable I'm all for waiting as long as no extensions are granted.

I believe one of Paul's teams led the country in team free throw percentage. Think of how many more wins the Saints might have if that were now the case. I continue to tear out what little hair I have left watching opposing players come into the TUC many for the first time swish one critical free throw after another while Saints who have been playing there for four years struggle to hit 50%.

I agree, financial stability will likely be a key in the decision making factor.

I liked that aspect as well as the fitness of the program wore our opponent down in the last 5 minutes. I was always confident of a win as long as we were within a few points.
