The only thing Marquis(as well as the whole team) really needs to put some extra work in during these last 4 weeks of the season is his focus (in both his head and in his stroke) to become a 90% foul shooter. This includes succeeding at the line late in games.
If you put the extra time in on your own Marquis, and expect to make them, you will make them.
Shoot like you have no memory other than muscle memory. If you miss one. No worries. Don't let it show in your body language. You have already forgot about it. You still want to be that guy to be the one to be on the foul line late in games.
Confidence. Confidence. Confidence.
Good foul shooting down the stretch by the whole team could be and probably will be, the difference in whether this team ends up in 1st or 5th place in this league. With the make up of this team they can get to the line a lot in this league.
If they shoot 80% as a team from the line in these last 8 games, based on an avg. of 20 foul shots a game, that's 16 points a game where no one is guarding you. That's huge. If you shoot 80% as compared to 60% on 20 foul shots, that extra four points a game could be the difference between going 7-1 and 4-4 in these last 8 games.
Other than that, don't worry about the numbers Marquis. Just play your game and keep attacking. In both transition and in the half court set, keep attacking. That is your game. It's when you are the best version of you. It's when you have the best opportunity when needed to picking up assists by creating easy shots for others. The shots will fall. moore importantly it will keep you in the right mindset to just keep playing without too much thinking.
It will also help create more open looks on the perimeter for yourself. When you have the open look where you have some space, are shooting in rythm, and when there is no hesitation, keep shooting that three or mid range pull up outside shot. They will either fall or open up lanes to get to the hoop. Become a threat both inside and out. Take what the defense gives you, and you will succeed. You have the talent to do this.
Confidence. Confidence. Confidence.
