I'm going in another direction on this game - I think the crowd wasn't ready. By count, the biggest home crowd of the season, and they were far from ready. From the opening tip to when Siena drew within two points late in the first half, the place was lifeless. Iona coach claiming it is a great place to play, that's because he wins there all the time, not due to the atmosphere - the fans didn't do their part. Stop blaming the "kids weren't ready" excuse. Start with the fan base needs to come out in numbers and not sit on their hands for two hours and then trudge back home. The crowd last night was mixed, but very few with any emotion or excitement.
This is a "team" thing, the crowd feeds off the energy of the team, and if that doesn't happen, then the team needs to feed off the energy of the crowd, and we didn't bring it last night. Our support was not loud enough, not encouraging enough, not vocal. This is not going to the theater to be entertained, folks, you need to get into the action.
Do away with those stupid serving tables on the floor - NO REAL PROGRAMS have that setup, there are college kids surrounding the court, and in the face of the opponent, not someone in an easy chair, reclining. That atmosphere sucks. It is ugly. If the TUC wants better crowds, put the band back closer to the team - no one notices them down at the other end. Put the kids RINGING the court. Throw the high rollers who do nothing to create the atmosphere out of the court side seats. Put someone who cares there. Put the kids near the team to feed off each other's energy. Create a college basketball environment where it is an intimidating place for visitors to come to, not where the Ionas of the world "love to play" - greatest place to play in the MAAC - garbage - the WORST venue in the MAAC- big place, lousy atmosphere and that's on us.
OK, I'm done.

What? And this has exactly what to do with a thread titled "Siena loses at home to Iona for seventh straight"? Any chance that you could practice some personal self-control and post less? And posting anything about self-control next to the avatar you have chosen is absolutely brilliant!

A major reason for this is that the students who give of their time in the pep band or on the dance team and cheerleading squad are not permitted to generate a college basketball environment at the TUC. They are an afterthought to the P A announcers verbal commercials and the endless run of lame shooting contests, dancing coffee cups, trivia contests, musical chairs and canned music(?) I'm wishing for a wealthy fan to pony up the most likely few hundred dollars the sponsors pay on a game night for these promotions. Why not give the sponsors exposure by having them sponsor the band, cheerleaders' appearences and create the environment found at other arenas?

Hankla, thanks for the kind words and your thoughts - I think you are 100% right in your comments. At times when there is starting to be a basketball atmosphere, the mood is broken by a stupid Coffee and Donut thing or the musical chairs deal - all of those things take away from a basketball environment. Well said.

I agree with Hankla on what the arena/admin can do to make it feel like a better college atmosphere despite the venue but the team does have to do it's part, realistically. The team got down right from the start and it was a slow burn the rest of the way. Tip your hat to Iona that was an ass kicking. No sustainable runs from Siena to get the crowd into the game. Coach was sick so he wasn't even entertaining and if he loses the entertainment factor he literally has nothing to offer.
