This game is going to be different than the Cornell game.
Cornell was all guards. GW is all bigs.
I'm torn on how this game will go.
On one hand:
Saints didn't play that well last game, Lavon is still out, the newcomers are still not settled into their roles, GW has a pretty good frontcourt (we all know Cavanaugh), and this game is on the road.
But on the other hand:
Our guards may be too fast for this team. Cornell's guards are quick, guys like Jaren Sina are not. Marquis Wright and Nico Clareth are Alpha dogs. GW's guards are not.
GW struggled some in their D2 exhibition. They also struggled to a 4 pt win vs KPOM 335 ranked Maryland Eastern Shore in game 1 and turned it over 20 times against what Kpom has as potentially one of the worst defenses in D1.
Bisping and Cavanaugh are like the same guy, but I'd perhaps take Brett over him defensively. If Bisping and JO can break even with the GW frontcourt, Wright, Nico and the rest of our athletic guards should be able to take this one home for us. We may be too fast for them on the perimeter. Combine that with Bisping and JO and the matchup looks beneficial to us.
I think we have more offensive fire power than they do right now even without Lavon. They've been struggling on perimeter defense.
My fear is that someone like Steeves goes off from three or something. As long as someone like him or a guard doesn't go off, I have to figure we have a good chance to win this one even with it being on the road.
Hopefully, Nico will have a better game. Less threes. More twos.

Watch out for their "small" forward Watanabe- goes about 6-8 , a Japanese national who is smoothe as silk- reminds me a little bit of Ubiles. I'll be very interested to see who we have covering him, might well be Nico. He is all finesse - a bit soft.

More twos. A lot of Nico's three's were on a break and when the ball was delivered to him he either didn't set his feet or square up to the hoop before shooting- those shots are much harder to knock down consistently. He is a very good defender and if he plays under control on offense will be a dynamic scorer from either three or two. I love how we match up with GW and our backcourt should expose their weakness. Having Lavon would have surely helped.

GW beat Bowie by 6. Bowie scored 80 points. Bowie had 37 PF s against them. MES lost by single digits. The also had mid 30 PF against them. It is difficult to beat those 8 man teams.

GW will struggle against Siena. Siena wins this game. Hope so. GW opens as a 4.5-point favorite. Would really like Siena's chances if the game was in the TUC. Worried about the short turnaround on the road and no Lavon. GW shot 34 FT to Maryland Eastern Shore's 14 in a four point win. Siena can't put them on the line and has to keep the TOs down. Bisping-Cavanaugh is the match-up to watch. Hopefully Nico gets his shooting touch down and knee is OK. Siena will score points the question is can we defend GW?

I know it isn't like playing Penn State but this is a good early season test of how good we are and can be.

Agree I like Siena's chance against Penn State if we were playing them - see GW as tossup although can't have JO getting those touch fouls like yesterday and expect to win with him on the bench.

Penn St will end up being a decent team. That's a very good win for UALb.
Cavanaugh is probably the best individual player (outside of Kansas) the Saints will play this year. Siena will compete but I am no where near as confident as slim in a Siena victory.

I know it isn't like playing Penn State but this is a good early season test of how good we are and can be. Disagree GW not a good team this year, and with all the off court stuff that happened not the best environment there right now. Very inexperienced Coaching, Talent in the backcourt is not close to most A10 level teams. IMO Siena should win this game. Comparing Brett to Tyler IMO is not as close as you guys think. Tyler is really good. He's just better player to me and I don't think it's close.

Cavanaugh has 39 double-doubles in his 39 games at GW............that is tremendous....................................I believe game can be seen on A10 access for those interested, $6.95 for 24 hour access!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's early season here, and the transitive property doesn't apply to college hoops, but considering it's early in the season here there's only so much to go on:
GW struggled in exhibition, then eked out a win against MD-Eastern Shore (#335 KenPom) - GW was up 17 points with 11 minutes left, then let Eastern Shore come back to get within 4 with 1:30 left. To me, that screams of a disorganized team that lacks cohesion.
MD-Eastern Shore proceeded to then lose by 4 to UMBC (#308 in KenPom).
These are teams any credible basketball program just runs out of the gym. GW has a decent collection of talent (and I agree with Slim, Tyler Cavanaugh is very, very good - he will be the best player on the floor), but it's clear they're a team in turmoil right now.

Any A10 game on the road especially against a team that won 28 games and the NIT championship plus was ranked several weeks last year is a challenge. I know GW has had some issues but this will be a tough game. If Siena comes to play and we get solid play from the bench we certainly can win this game. Need to come out strong and jump out to an early lead. JO and Brett have to hold their own inside...hopefully 'Quis and Nico are the difference in the backcourt.
