.@sienambb G Kadeem Smithen (knee) will play vs. Cornell, as expected. He scrimmaged at Columbia on Saturday. 0 replies 1 retweet 0 likes Mark Singelais @marksingelais 1h1 hour ago
.@sienambb's Jimmy Patsos said G Nico Clareth (knee) still isn't 100%, but they're hoping he'll play in Sunday's opener vs. Cornell.

Citing NCAA rule, Siena's Jimmy Patsos wouldn't comment even generally on Columbia scrimmage. Seemed to think it's as silly as rest of us. 0 replies 0 retweets 1 like Mark Singelais @marksingelais 38m38 minutes ago
Gorgeous bounce pass from Siena's Marquis Wright to cutting Kadeem Smithen for layup in practice. 0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes Mark Singelais @marksingelais 45m45 minutes ago
Nico Clareth feeling well enough to bank in a 3-pointer from just a couple of steps inside halfcourt. Then some talking and high-fiving. 0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes Mark Singelais @marksingelais 1h1 hour ago
Don't expect to see Siena freshman forward Sammy Friday in a game anytime soon. A redshirt possibility, if no injuries.
Good news on Kadeem. I have to imagine Nico should be OK. He looked fine in the exhibition game. He might not be 100% this year but he wasn't 100% last year either. Don't mind RS Friday - barring major injuries when is he going to play. JO and Brett will both start and play 30-32 MPG and Fisher/WB will grab up the remaining minutes.

My original thought when I saw Sam wasn't dressed for the Daeman game was a red shirt possibility. Then the word was a groin injury. I feel they asked him if he would agree to that. Time will tell. I liked the talent of Wormley but to me it was apparent he didn't buy into the team concept first. No one is bigger than the team.

I know Marshotel posted the link to this interview in another thread, but thought it was pertinent here as they do discuss the Cornell game/beginning of the season a bit.
We're well aware that Jimmy is known to throw out approximately 73289472384 different line-ups pre-season, but the fact that this is from Wednesday, a few days before the season opener, and he said that Asante Shivers might start b/c Nico is still hurt and "coming back slowly" isn't totally giving me the warm & fuzzies (which is not a knock on Shivers, who I'm excited to see perform).
Also, JP tiered players as such (if you don't have the time to listen): Tier 1 - JO, Marquis, Brett Tier 2 - Lavon, Evan (who he said has really stepped up), Nico (who is close to being 1st tier but he's hurt) Tier 3 - Richard (who will start & be asked to do little things), Kadeem Smithen who's coming back from injury, and his 9th man is Asante Shivers (who was given the junkyard dog tag already)
Some other comments on EF (Blue Horseshoe looooooves EF): "my unsung, my most biggest surprise...Evan Fisher has worked, it's not like he's come out of the closet and just started shooting and doing well, this guy is a worker, he's a vocal guy...a lot of energy in our locker room last year, I think he's exerting a little more of that. He's going to be a really good 6th man, I value my 6th man...talks on defense, he's vocal, he's big but can shoot...this guy's 6'8" and might be my best shooter...but he's earned it, he really put the work in."

Yeah that interview creeped me out a little. It's good in that Shivers is doing well. The EF comments are both good and bad. And most of all the Nico situation is disturbing....
We keep hearing how Nico is hurt. Yet he's practicing and playing in games. And he has energy enough to challenge Singelais to 1 on 1. That was a funny tweet by the way. Yet JP makes comments like this and says he could miss Cornell game. There's a lot of mixed signals on just what the situation is.

Why run him that much in a meaningless scrimmage if he's still hurting? You think you would pick your spots very carefully to keep the mileage down, it's a long and wearing season. Patsos drives me crazy at times. He's a walking contradiction!

Cornell plays at Binghamton at 7pm tonight on ESPN3 for those interested in scouting them.
The fact they have a road game and then travels to Siena should be to our advantage.
Let's take advantage of it and have a big win on Sunday afternoon!

Those guys will probably be in bed here in town before you will, Mike.

Binghamton beats Cornell 68-62. They're a preseason Ivy bottom feeder pick I'd say we better hammer them .... It's what very good teams do Mike .. they win the games they should and a even some they shouldn't! I expect to beat Cornell handly!

I'm sure Cornell is already in an Albany hotel tonight. Travel will be no issue.
Concerned about 'Quis hand. He may have chipped a bone in his left hand. Only we could be this banged up before the first game. smh

Are they doing a "sculpture" unit in art class? The saga continues - we can't 'catch' a break, although we are working to cut down on our turnovers......

Why is this a reoccurring theme? Brett both knees, Wright hand, Smithen knee, Friday groin, Nico knee (did I miss anyone?) what the hell are we doing in practice or are we just snakebit?
Another observation; if Nico and Brett are hurting why are they playing in meaningless scrimmages and practicing?

Just can't get to opening day firing with all cylinders I guess. Just can't be the beginning of the reasons we can't close the deal this season.

Only we could be this banged up before the first game. smh Wow! Any official word on that? Any chance he won't play tomorrow and I say that with the feeling that if there is any doubt, he shouldn't. Let it heal since it is such a new injury. Let's see what a backup could do - or might have to do down the road.
