I hope it's transparent. Would love to see clues pick Siena first so we get the harder schedule.

As things go, it will most likely be as transparent as mud.

Dumb, bigger conferences are going to 20 games so the MAAC bucks the trend and goes to 18. Then has an unbalanced schedule where the criteria for scheduling appears to be haphazard at best.
I've always liked the MAAC and think it has been a good home to Siena. This is a dumber idea than moving the tournament to Springfield was.

How does a team plan to be predicted in the bottom 4 so that they don't have scheduling restrictions?
The votes don't come out until after the schedule is mostly set.
Basically, it seems like every team needs to schedule hard just in case.

I actually like the concept of 18 games because at least the league is attempting to raise its profile, with presumably the goal being more post season opportunities. But the execution, specifically the mandate of polls deciding the schedule, is horrendous and yes doomed to Springfield-like failure.

This will work only if teams can schedule up ... which is not easy these days ...

Besides the foreign trip this year...Siena might have another inherent advantage. With only returning basically Clareth, the coaches might pick Siena fairly low in the preseason.
That could mean Siena would have a chance to play 2 top 5 predicted teams only once...leading to an easier MAAC schedule.
I have to figure that Siena could be picked somewhere 6th to 9th..
If they're close to 6th...the schedule might screw things up a bit in a tie-breaker situation but they could have an easier path to the top 5 than the top 5 has to the top 5. It will be interesting to see how that whole thing plays out this year.
Since this year is also so confusing as to who will be good or not, the affects this year could create some interesting scenarios.

This is another reason why it is stupid to schedule based on preseason rankings. Why wouldn't a coach pick his team as low as he could (without looking ridiculous) to ensure an easier schedule.

I know I'm in the minority on this but if Iona is going to be the best team in the league then I want to see them come to the TUC rather than only playing them once and getting a second easier game with a garbage team.

If we only play Iona once I hope it's in New Ro....only place where we can beat them! lol

The only teams that will play Iona once will be the teams ranked 10th and 11th. Siena won't likely be ranked that low. No worries. What it does mean though is that Iona will have to beat tougher teams in order to hold on to that 1 spot. They won't get to play Marist twice like we likely will. If they're going to be #1, they're going to have to beat the mid-pack teams to do it. Given the state of their frontcourt and this scheduling issue, Iona may not win the MAAC by the 5 games Guy and Co. would have us believe.
