I guess it really depends on whether in two years Degnan and/or Brandwijk are actually capable of playing the 3 effectively. If so then there is room for everyone. If not then there will be at least one odd man out. The 3...I'm confused...BW playing the 3 isn't that called the wing... ?? Not sure what you mean or if you are just trolling. I would generally consider a wing to be a 2 or a 3. I don't think there is anyway that either of them could play the 2.

Is that a bad thing? Patsos told me he'll remind people of Tay Fisher - a sniper from long range. The team could use one of those coming of the bench. Supposedly he scores in bunches. Would be nice to know we have a backcourt offensive threat on the floor if Nico and Marquis are both out of the game at the same time. Especially since word is offense is not Smithen's forté. Well if you can't stop Monmouth Iona and Manhatten ... hitting a few 3's won't matter much. We didn't have problems scoring the ball last year we just couldn't stop anyone on D with more athleticism. As far as I see it we have 2 issues 1 turnovers 2 stopping more athletic teams - did we improve enough in this area? The Way I see it, those teams you mention may need to be concerned with how to stop him. Do you have any insight that suggests Richard isn't athletic and quick enough to defend athletic, quick guards? Because I haven't heard that. The one knock on him I know of is that he's undersized for the 2 spot. That said, I remind you that the current best player in the conference is 5'8.

I'm just asking the question because the last time i checked we were well under 500 vs the top of the MAAC last year. The main reason we were was because we were less athletic. I'm not saying we didn't or did get more athletic and I'm not passing judgement on Richards. I've only seen a few 7 second clips on a few of the new guys. I guess we will know soon enough! Won't we?

"We were well under .500 vs the top of the MAAC last year" We were?? 3-5 because of a sweep by Monmouth. Iona we beat EASILY at their place by 13, lost at home by 6. St Peters beat us by 4 at their place, we crushed them by 17. Fairfield beat us by 7 at their place, and we spanked them by 15 at the TUC.
Maybe our strength is the frontcourt, and not having the most athletic wings in the league? Not sure how much we could have improved anywhere. We have so many veterans coming back, it would be extremely difficult for any new guy to get real minutes on this team. I'm hoping for contributions from the two athletic kids that sat out (Kadeem and WB) and maybe one freshman breaking thru to get 10 min a night.

Staff is also pretty high on Khalil Richard. Was told he had offers from a couple of A10 offers before he got hurt. Reportedly can really score it. Yeah but can he defend or play the point? Otherwise he's a 6 ft SG...and shooter off the bench. He's seems likely a new Hymes/Oliver type for us. I don’t believe that to be case at all, Khalil is much bigger and stronger than Hymes, and has lateral quickness ( something Oliver was sorely lacking) I suspect if Khalil was 6’2" or 6’3” he would have been in A10 or higher.

To make jump next year to top of MAAC we do need to cut down turnovers and defend the athletic teams better. We gave up a avg of 85ppg in the 5 games vs Iona and Monmouth. I too am hopeful the addition of a few of the more athletic guys ( Kadeem, WB and maybe Khalil) Will close the athletic “gap” we had last season vs Iona and Monmouth

I should add that Nico and Kenny were both good defenders- with year of maturity and hopefully added strength on Kenny‘s part. I expect both players to be better defenders this year. As good as Ryan Oliver was offensively, he was a major liability on defensive side of ball. Against weaker teams Jimmy could “hide” him defensively. Against Iona and Monmouth ( teams with Athletic and talented 2 and 3’s ) he could not and it “hurt” us.

Mon 0 & 2 Iona 1 & 2 SP 1 & 1 That's 2 and 5 Win Pct .285 And in an earlier post I singled out the following teams as well Mon 0 & 2 Iona 1 & 2 Man 2 & 1 That's 3 and 5 Win Pct .375 Both well under .500 My point agian was only that we scored the ball well but had too many turnovers and struggled to stop more athletic teams last year. You disagree? Im expecting big things this year we should be the best team in the MAAC.

In my opinion this years success depends solely on Marquis and Nico gelling. All the other pieces seem to be in place.

A random thought: How scarey will this kid be if they give him #13.

We do need to beat the better teams if we want to win the regular season championship. The key is obviously to dominate the middle pack and bottom teams and play .500 against the other top clubs. If you do that and you're looking at a 17-3 or 16-4 type of record which usually wins the league. We can't have the "stupid" losses next year (Marist, Cornell, at St. Peter's (no-show game) etc) if we want to have a truly outstanding season.
Defense will be the key..it was pretty solid for most of the year but really struggled when facing more athletic teams especially down the stretch (Monmouth, Iona, Morehead State). You know this team will score a lot of points, in fact, I expect we'll average 80 a game this year.
Guard play will be very important. I agree the key is for 'Quis and Nico to mesh together. 'Quis should just focus on running the team and worry less about scoring. Siena has one of the best front-lines of any mid-major in the country with Brett, JO and Lavon so if we take care of the ball, defend and continue to shoot well then this is our title to lose.
Lots of excitement for 16-17 and hopefully we sign three really good players this fall to reload with after graduating our four talented seniors!

Just can't take any "lesser" teams for granted. Show up with the A game every night. Too often they were no-shows against weaker teams last year.
