I was wondering the same. My bet is that if they keep the news division and broadcasting capability nothing will change. If they sell it/kill it off then I would suspect the games would go too. It's probably a good thing the MAAC has the deal with ESPN. I mentioned it earlier in the season but I have an Apple TV and watching the MAAC games on ESPN3 is a fantastic experience...better than cable. If you don't have a streaming device I can see it being sub-par but a $35 device will do the trick and you'll be watching full-screen HD feeds with none of that "internet feed" ghosting, etc. It really is a nice experience. I'd like to see more of the MAAC games (or all Siena games anyway) on ESPN3. The other plus is I can watch on my tablet when I have to take my son to hoop & soccer practices.

I hated the concept of ESPN3 until cablevision "allowed" me to get it year before last. I still was frustrated because I couldn't dvr games I the trois. This year i realized that they allow replays on demand for any game they televised. I could watch games from last year or the year before today. I am an espn3 believer.

It's a shame Siena can't play some games on MSG! It defiantly would help with recruiting in the Tri-State area!

Not only does MSG not have the national audience that ESPN3 has but it also doesn't reflect the way the recruits are watching TV these days. They are watching games on their phones and on their XBoxes more and more and watching on cable and satellite less and less. The MAAC made the right move getting on ESPN3.

I don't know the numbers do you? I think espn3 is pretty fan specific. In that during the regular season the only real audience are the fans from the teams playing. I may be wrong but my guess is msg has a larger audience.

I feel ESPN3 has been a good thing overall for the MAAC. Most of our conferences now are offering free feeds on ESPN3.
I live far away from the Capital Region area, and it was a joy to watch games at my desktop this past season! I know other Siena fans that also live far away do appreciate that the feeds are free- I'd love to see Siena make ALL their feeds free.
Ah well. I understand the economics of the situation.

The only ones watching maac game on ESPN3 are former players, diehard fans, potential recruits and diehard gamblers.

I know a lot of people who either buy games via the Siena website or watch on ESPN3. those would be fairly avid fans. I think the point is, that ESPN3 probably doesn't get many casual fans or fans of other teams. Occasionally, other MAAC fans, That would be a good study. I would think MSG would get more casual sports fans scanning through the channels. Granted, that limits the geographic area.

I can only speak for myself, but for someone who is a longtime Siena basketball fan and hasn't lived locally in almost 20 years, the ability to watch games on ESPN3 has been a godsend.

Not for nothing, the MAAC used to have to pay to get games on MSG ... no one was watching and they actually lost money on the deal. They paid MSG and paid for the production costs and sold the advertising themselves.
They are much better off with the ESPN3 deal.
