I read this article and don't see Siena mentioned which I hope is an oversight. I have seen her at games and she has great bloodlines:
As one of the best players on one of the best teams in New York State, 6'0" Shenendehowa junior wing Sydney Brown '17 is starting to the draw the attention of opposing defenses, as well as college coaches, as she is primed to be a player watch over the weeks and months to come.
There really is very little that Brown cannot do for the 18-2 Plainsmen as she is averaging 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists a game and playing just about anywhere that Shenendehowa head coach Joe Murphy needs her.
"Sydney can go inside or outside," Murphy said. "For us she plays a lot on the inside, but we do mix it up at times and play her on the perimeter because with our 5 out, she can definitely get to the rim or shoot it from long range."
That isn't necessarily to say that Brown has always been the versatile player that she is. A lot of it in her eyes is the hard work that she put in over this past summer.
Having for the most part always been a player who played in the pain for Shen, Brown decided to work on her dribbling and shooting more last July and August so that she could become more versatile and be someone defenses would really have to watch for all over the floor.
It's that growth in her game that has made her someone that defenses have to plan for at Shenendehowa, but there is still work to go to where Brown wants to be.
"I still can post up defenders yet now I can take them outside more as well," Brown said. "It's definitely harder though with more attention defenses are showing me, but that just says I have to work harder to become even better."
With a stellar junior season it shouldn't come as any surprise that with her improved numbers have come more college coaches to take a look at what Brown can do.
There have been a good number of coaches who have come to see her in the recent weeks and months with a number of schools already having offered the multitalented Brown.
"Albany, Stony Brook, Iona, Manhattan, and St. Bonaventure are just a few that have offered Syd," Murphy said about the list of offers Brown already holds.
Along with that group the coach also said that St. Joseph's and Princeton are starting to take hard looks and are very interested as well.
It truly has been quite the year for Brown, who just turned 16 in November. The colleges showing interest truly has her humbled though she says that she will start to focus more on that after the season as her sole focus now is helping lead the Plainsmen to a Section 2 Championship, and possibly even more.
Exciting times are ahead for sure, and Murphy says he doesn't even know yet how good Brown can be noting that she can be special, and he is just happy to have a chance to coach someone with such a bright and talented future.
"I cannot wait to see Sydney next year and in college because the potential for her is honestly through the roof."
