m.youtube.com/watch?v=KTb9fNuB6eUHopefully next Siena president will give the same support to athletics as Fr. Kevin who resigned today to take over as new leader of Franciscan province.

Don't count on it. Father Kevin was a former baller himself believe it or not. We'll be hard pressed to find a president as hoops crazy as one who actually played the sport.

The new Siena president does not have to be. All you want is someone who won't stand in the way of growing the program and I don't anticipate that being a problem. Father Kevin will still be on the BOT I believe and they ultimately make the important calls in regards to policy. There are many pro athletic people (i.e. basketball) on the board and that's a good thing. Best wishes to Father Kevin. Had the pleasure to meet him at a game last year - a real classy guy.

His predecessor, Fr. Kevin Mackin, although not as public about it, also was a hoop supporter. On a train to NYC I spoke to him about the program and he said he recognized how important it was for the school's visibility and admissions. So anyone coming to the position today has to support the program as it is simply good business. And necessary with all the competition these days for students. But Fr. Mullen was special for sure.

Absolutely no disrespect to any of the other fine sports programs at Siena, but face it, the Men's Basketball Program is, has been and will continue to be the Hallmark Sports Program for Siena College. Other sports, e.g., volleyball, lacrosse, soccer, women's hoops, golf, etc., have had championship years (some multiple) but men's hoops is numero uno and the school will continue to do whatever it takes to reap maximum benefit from that program - read that increased applications, increased donor giving, increased sports program income, increased National Exposure while providing necessary investment in the school's sports related infrastructure.
