I thumbs down you on the end of that comment. you know Yankee-- you dont live to far away, you should buy Siena season tickets and at least see a winner this year I live in Hudson and my son went to Marist. (played football there) I've been to quite a few basketball games there. I have nothing negative to say about their program or their facilities. (They have a great pep band and you sure don't have to be a retired H.S. band director like I am to realize that) Here's the big BUT Yankee. Marist has a nice program and a nice school but, Siena is in a whole other league than the other programs in the MAAC. All you have to do is walk into the TU, into that environment to see the difference. It's a whole different level, it feels "big time." And now that we have a real coach again, we're going to have a good advantage recruiting talent because Siena's environment is "Big Time." I personally hope that Marist's new coach works out. I think it's healthy when both of our programs are on the up, it makes for a great rivalry, considering our close proximity to each other.

Hey Yankee, I hope the bell goes off and the commitment there shifts but if hiring a successful DIII coach is the signal to ring that bell I would be surprised. Sounds like a low cost shot in the dark to me rather then an indication that men's bb is not the weak stepson anymore. If the woman's coach left would the replacement come from DIII? Not on your life!

I told her if I ever screw up in our marriage, this would be the absolute worst punishment she could ever give me. She is now going to hold this over my head and I curse you for that.

And the tourney being there for 3 straight years is an absolute hammer for Patsos. I don't see that great recruit yet though to be honest. Now, in terms of the rest of the MAAC, Marist not only improved a lot about the inside of McCann. They did a ton of improvements with the locker rooms, the meeting rooms, the coaches offices, etc. Marist has everything they need to recruit at this level well. Problem is the upper admin is a bit snooty and don't think their crap smells. They look down on certain kids who don't meet their academic requirements. Great in one way, not great if you want to be consistenly competitive.

HOWEVER, lets remember he was a D1 assistant for many years with some good coaches, and not that long ago. So, basically we are getting a D1 assistant who has 6 years of experience running the day to day operations as a head coach. That is not a bad thing.

That's actually a good point. Get a guy with head coaching experience AND d1 experience seems to mitigate risk in the hire. Not every assistant can be the lead and not every head coach can make it in d1.

Siena has hired a couple of guys with no D1 head coaching experience (Deane, Hewitt), and they didn't turn out too bad. ;-)
