He works out religiously with Steve D'Agastino (former St. Rose All-American) at his basketball Academy. There's even YouTube videos on the kids workouts (Dags basketball) It's pretty impressive. So the St. Rose connection with Brown and Bassett, and he was sure he wanted to stay home to play college basketball, made it easy for him, and they obviously trusted Dags recommendation enough to offer so early. Good for him if he wanted to stay home. However how many 16 yo actually know what they want. That being said good for UA. However I don't think his coach or advisers fulfilled their responsibility to him having him sign that early. Waiting another 6 months to 9 who knows what opportunities may have opened. Play in the MAAC or AE if he is that good. I am assuming that he was a sophomore when he signed. How was he accepted hadn't taken the sat as of yet. Perhaps recruiting makes exceptions, sure the big schools do but UA is built on academics. Questioning the advisors not the kid. Think it was just a verbal until his senior year. Can't officially sign a LOI until he gets to his senior year.

This needs to go to the smackboard. The kid isn't even a 16 recruit No need, I'm not gonna respond any more to olddave attacking cremo and his choice... Let him gnash his teeth.

no click you are like the rest of over the top from both schools. You bring out fat but only the fact you wnt and when challenged fade away with your tasil between your legs. Same gores for when anybody questions something you don't like. I ask questions, defer to others when I don't know the answers. But I know frim what I am told the kid is good, I think he could have done better. What school you go to depends on your life. I attended UA, great school. Degree from Cuse BC or any other big school plus playing for them please. Candidly was his coached that pushed it, just admit it. BTW good for Coach Brown he came away with a gem

An article on Kevin Huerter
This season could not have gone much better for 6'5" point guard Kevin Huerter '16>, and it isn't over yet. Averaging 17 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds per game this season, he has led his Shenendehowa team to a Section 2 Class "AA" Championship, and with a slew of Division 1 offers already under his belt, he is now hoping to lead the Plainsmen even further.
M. Libert Kevin Huerter In Huerter's eyes all of the success the team is having is due to sticking together this past summer. They played AAU basketball as a group at the recommendation of head coach Tony Dzikas, and it has really proved to them that they can compete with anyone.
"Coach said it was important that our Shen team stay together for AAU season and develop better chemistry," Huerter said. "We saw great competition playing AAU and it helped translate into the high school season because we were not surprised by anything any team threw at us."
It helped bond the team to go unbeaten and win a sectional title, the first Plainsmen team to do that since 1996, and they are hoping to now win a State Championship, which would be the first Shen team to do that since 1987 when former Duke star Greg Koubek led them.
Huerter, who was a captain of the Plainsmen last season as a sophomore as well, has seen the growth in his personal game as well. He understood that being more vocal was going to be important, especially being the point guard, and he has done just that with Dzikas calling him everything a team could want as a leader, while Huerter says that other aspects of his game have grown as well.
"I think I have gotten strong and more athletic since the summer, which I know has a lot to do with my growing," Huerter said. "I have also worked a lot on my shooting so that I am not just considered a scorer."
One big thing you notice about Huerter is his size, running the point at 6'5". He has premium size for the position and he tries to take advantage of his size whenever he can.
He admits that his size helps him elevate better to get off better looks from the perimeter, being able to rise above defenses at times, while when he attacks the basket he added that he feels his size helps him avoid getting his shot blocked.
His size is truly a bit weapon, and Dzikas says that Huerter is the most talented player he has coached at Shenendehowa, and he says once everything really clicks in for his star junior, he could be even more dangerous going forward.
"When Kevin decides that he wants to dominate a game all the time the way I know he can, he is going to be even better and even more special than he already is right now, and that is a scary thought," Dzikas said.
It's a scary thought because of how special Huerter already is having just led Shen to an unbeaten season as they now head into the NYSPHSAA Class "AA" Regional Final this Saturday night against Henninger H.S. from Section 3, and with his strong play has come college offers.
Siena offered Huerter during the summer, and he says he has picked up offers since then from Albany, Duquesne, and Bucknell, which is his latest having come in the middle of January.
The high major interest is starting to pour in as well as Huerter added that he has heard as of late from Iowa, Georgia Tech, Creighton, Davidson, Penn State, George Washington, Fordham, Hofstra, and almost every Ivy League program as well.
While many schools are involved right now with Huerter, Siena is a school with strong family ties that have to be considered a favorite.
Kevin's father Tom Huerter is a former Siena player from the late 1980's who is now a commentator for the Saints broadcast team. They were the first to offer as well, but the guard says that while he has always imagined playing for Siena, it most definitely isn't a given that he will end up there, instead wanting to go to the place that is the best fit, which he adds that his father agrees with.
"I have grown up around Siena and have honestly always wanted to play there, but there is no pressure on me now because my dad wants me to go where I will be happy and fit in well whether that is at Siena or somewhere else," Huerter said. "My dad nor no one on the Siena coaching staff have put any pressure on me at all."
He says he will wait until after the summer to see what else develops along with visiting some schools before he makes his decision in fall he says.
It's an exciting time for Huerter as he seems to be getting better each time he hits the court, and as a tall point guard, he is a rare commodity who colleges should be chasing all summer when he plays with Albany City Rocks on the Nike EYBL circuit.
For now though, the goal is to keep winning games with Shenendehowa and to hopefully lead them to State and Federation Championships, and while doing that in itself would be great, the fact he gets to do it with his older brother Thomas Huerter '15, as well as with the rest of the seniors on the team, makes it just that much more special.
"I have always played up one grade level so I have been playing with the seniors on every travel and AAU team growing up, so to win a State Championship with them, and especially my brother, would be amazing and something I really hope we can do."

I have the sense that Kevin attending Siena would have been a slam dunk under Fran. Both his parents and his 2 grandfathers are proud alums. This is where Jimmy's approach with his players may hurt us. Daddy (Tom) Huerter has watched Jimmy up close for years...not sure I'd want that for my kid. We'll see...

6'6" SF Elijah Hughes from John F Kennedy Catholic HS downstate. THIS is the type of player we should be recruiting. His team lost in the finals down there, so he won't be making it to UAlbany for the Federation tournament. That might be a good thing.
He's got a lot of MM interest (except us), but it won't shock me if the BCS schools jump all over him after this summer. If any MM in the state has a shot at this kid, it should be us. Hope the staff reads this $hit! lol

I coached his sister for four years on Varsity (she now plays at St. Peters) Kid would be an absolute stud in the MAAC. He is legit 6'6 plays point guard in the CHSAA, can shoot from deep, has good mid range game, and is an explosive leaper. Also is a + defender. Heard he is playing for the City Rocks this offseason. He has flown somewhat under the radar, because he did not play high level AAU up to now. If Patsos gets this guy, he would go a long way to fixing the program. Absolute game changer on both sides of the ball. Could play 1-3 at Siena

Hughes has offers from Iona and Fairfield already and Villanova is sniffing around.

Actually have another kid who will be a solid mid major recruit in Malachai DeSousa. Both him and Elijah are from Beacon. Both need to get stronger, but both are capable 6'5+ wings

He's got potential, but I wouldn't peg him as div. 1 material just yet. If any one else on that team has any shot at D1, it would be 6'7 big man Dominick Cristiano. Hughes would be a great 3 at Siena, but I caution you all that his game is not really shooting a lot of 3 pointers if that's what you're hoping for out of that position. He's a former PG that still has a past-first mentality. Here's his scout from 2014 GymRat, which sums up his game perfectly: Elijah Hughes, 6-5 wing, Playmaker Academy Elite/Beacon H.S.: An agile, athletic wing. Very quick and active hands on the defensive end. Finishes above the rim in transition game. Ability to create shots for teammates. Can hit the outside shot on occasion, but prefers to drive and create.

Interested to see Huerter play against Mt. Vernon today. This is not really a vintage Mt. Vernon team, probably the weakest representative they have had at states. Want to see how he controls the game and tempo.
