This year's final four has a crazy factor of 14 (seed value minus chalk) is the same as last year.
Only 1 of my original 6 title contenders still remain. My criteria was a strong offense AND defense, an experienced NCAA tournament coach, a good path and blue blood favoritism.
My Pick:
Wisconsin --2 seed 13-2 last 15, 74 PPG, give up 64 PPG, coach Bo Ryan has six sweet sixteen or better finishes and now a final four appearance.
They have the most complete team of the remaining ones left, so I am sticking with them as your national champion.
If not Wisconsin, then:
Florida--- 1 seed, won 30 in a row in relatively weak SEC, avg 71 PPG--33% of all people in the nation picked Florida from the start and hey why not, all they do is win.
One of the above two teams will likely win the championship. But, if not, the other two teams will win despite factors that have not been overcome in over 15 seasons (though not unprecedented)
7 seed Connecticut-- boast a one man scoring machine in Napier, and his backcourt mate Boatright is no slouch either 8 seed Kentucky-- the young guns come of age
Who is your pick and why?

Florida over Kentucky ... but I'm not very confident of it. Gators will have to beat the Wildcats FOUR times (all since Feb. 15th) and Kentucky has more talent. But Florida has more experience (start 4 seniors) and I like Donovan over Calipari in a big game. Kentucky's 8 seed is truly only a number...they lost 10 games and earned an 8 but they have #1 seed talent and just went through 4 pretty good teams 3 of them national title contenders themselves in Wichita State, Louisville and Michigan. Florida, Kentucky, Wisconsin, UConn - most likely to least likely to win the title IMO. Which means put your house on UConn

Have no interest in watching the Kentucky Heat Monday night ... Come Tuesday morning none of them will find a classroom for the remainder of their "college careers" ... This is beginning of ruination of college basketball as we know and love

Could not be happier for Shabazz & Co. I admit I thought my Huskies as well as my Saints would have a longer road to recovery. What a weekend, clear into Monday night. Making my last trip to Columbus today to say goodbye to working at OSU after 8 years- guess I will renew in Loudonville and Storrs for next year! #can'twaituntilnextseason

Who had a better year Siena or Kentucky?

Siena. Kentucky was a pre-season favorite. Granted they fell short in the final game, and as much as I hate the one and done, Calipari is a wizard to get a team of all stars to play together....but in the end, experience won out.
As for Siena...well they were a pre-season nobody who was coached by a Wizard (and staff of Merlins)who got more out of them than they thought they were capable of.

That's an interesting idea that exceeding expectations makes for a better year. I prefer objectivity. National runner-up is a better banner to hang and it comes with lots of NCAA credits (cold hard cash).
I would say that any team in the Big Dance, any team with a regular season conference championship, and any team that went to the NIT semifinals had a better season than Siena. Anybody else, not so much.

I would venture to say all of Siena's freshman will be academically eligible to enter their sophomore year ... You may not even be able to find any of UK's student-athlete freshman on-campus next week ... To me that makes for a more successful year for a college program!

Not going to get a huge argument from me, but I certainly would find Siena's season more satisfying than a season like Mount Saint Mary's, who struggled in a lesser conference than Siena, got hot for three days, than lost their play-in game before the real tourney starts to finish the year below .500. But I'm a proponent of moving to a better conference because I value higher quality games throughout the season over crushing substandard teams and getting blown out in the opening round of the NCAAs.
