Even assuming Arizona wins this group of sweet sixteen is almost as crazy as last year, and last year had Florida Gulf Coast in it! With all the madness 3 out of my original 6 title contenders remain, and I am still very confident your champion will come from one of these three. They are the only ones left that possess a strong offense AND defense, an experienced NCAA tournament coach, a good path and blue blood favoritism:
Michigan -- 2 seed, won 9 out of 10, have Tennessee to reach elite 8. 75 PPG, give up 65 PPG, coach Beilein has four sweet sixteen or better finishes.
Arizona --- 1 seed, plays San Diego State to reach elite 8. 10-3 last 13, 73 PPG, give up 58 PPG, coach Sean Miller has five sweet sixteen or better finishes.
Wisconsin --2 seed plays 6 seed Baylor to reach elite 8. 11-2 last 13, 74 PPG, give up 64 PPG, coach Bo Ryan has six sweet sixteen or better finishes.
Next 4
These four will have to score some upsets and hope others help out too. They may not have all of the title qualities but were hot teams heading into tourney:
Ucla---won pac 12 tournament, 4 seed and coach Steve Alford has never led a team past the sweet 16
Michigan state -- won Big 10 tournament, 4 seed
Florida--- 1 seed, won 28 in a row in relatively weak SEC, avg 71 PPG
Virginia -- 1 seed, won 17 of 18 inc. ACC tournament, avg 65 PPG
I would be shocked if the champion fell outside the above groups.
11 seed Dayton
10 seed Stanford
3 seed Iowa State
7 seed Connecticut
4 seed San Diego State
6 seed Baylor
8 seed Kentucky
4 seed Louisville
11 seed Tennessee
