Agree that regular season champ should get auto bid. Why play the season if you don't get the nod. If NCAA did mot take over nit teams like SB probably would not get an invite for simple reason of draw.
UA should be proud as all of is in the area. Brown a good coach for his conference. Probably won't go anywhere. UA kids a good group. For their conference talented, some could play in maac, even start but all in all not athletic or quick enough for maac or caa.

Yeah - I have always generally questioned the importance placed on the 3 day tournament. Not quite sure what it means. Given that is what we have to deal with, I commend a coach who can understand how it works and get his team to peak at that time. And all the more, if he can put together a team that can sustain it for a whole season & still win his tournament. That is, obviously the Gold standard.
I wonder if something like this is possible. NCAA bid to reg season champ & some kind of incentive - higher seed if they also win their tournament. A diff tournament winner is guaranteed NIT. Could get complicated though. That said, this system has worked pretty good, probably shouldn't mess with it.
I give credit to Brown to be able to do get his team playing their best in March. Go Danes! It's all good for this area's hoops team!

It's all good for this area's hoops team! Next year it will get tougher for Albany as it will go to entirely home seed-- no more winning your regular season and having to go to Albany for two games. I would like to do as you suggest-- award the NCAA bid to the regular season champ but there are several problems with it, all having to do with money. 1) The MAAC tournament would have even less cache that it does now, and that is hard to do. ESPN would drop it from TV coverage. Fans would become disinterested. Teams might too. 2) Teams would have nothing left to play for once they lose a few games in the conference regular season..... fan disinterest and possible team disinterest would ensue. At least now the middle of the pack teams would always have it in their back of their mind to get better in preparation for those three days in March. I will never understand why some of the people on here devalue the lesser End of Season tournaments too. The off season is long enough as it is, why rush it? It's a wonderful way to cap off the season and yeah a national championship is not at stake but the team did finish in the top half of the NCAA-- that counts for something in my book even if the overall record is slightly below "par". Besides, we should embracing these tournaments now because if we don't they may not offer us even if we do have a better record. Also, there will be less opportunities for these tournaments if we get into the A10 as the CIT does not accept A10 teams

When UA wins a tournament game I'll be impressed. C'mon show some class. Congrats UA. (that was tough) Agreed......I guess. But, seriously, how bad was Stony Brook yesterday? They seemed to be playing scared. But the result is what it is, and Albany is the AE Tournament winner. Looking forward to seeing the Danes next November for the first of what should be the start of a string of consecutive wins for the Saints.

But, having said that I can't get excited about a tournament where you can for the most part buy your way in by committing to pay for home games. Maybe if we are guaranteed to play a BCS team at home we could not do now might add a little spark. But playing UB or the Bonnies does not do it for me. Let's be honest if you remove the Siena name from their resume should the 5th place team with a losing record from the MAAC with an RPI of 196 (according to real time RPI today) be playing in the postseason ? I am sure I am in the minority with this thinking but its just my opnion

I understand what your are saying. But it is great postseason experience for the kids and maybe a little reward for them for playing above expectations. You have to start somewhere.

I sort of agree Hoopsfan- and most years I would agree. But after what Siena fans had to put up with 3 years of PW..a rebuilding job this year , I’m more than happy to support team and program.

Many people on here like to put other fans down for not "supporting the team". Well here is where you can literally put your money where your mouth is (note I am not saying that you are the one putting other fans down). This is a great opportunity for fans to support the program by purchasing a ticket to see the team play one or more times. These opportunities should not be taken lightly-- it is one of the only ways we as fans have to help move the program forward. Unfortunately, I feel that there is a growing majority of Siena folks that would rather have Siena just play in an NEC like conference in perpetuity, and its 3 days in March or bust mentality. Should Siena win a game there would be an increasing likelihood of playing a team from a top conference, and the championship series will be televised on CBS sports network, a national cable network. It's an exciting opportunity imo, especially after three seasons of Buono ball.

If Siena gets in (and it seems many here believe/know it is a given) it will be on the strength of their ability to get fans in the seats. To not go if you have a reasonable opportunity to do so would drive the attendance down and eliminate the "selling point" in the future when Siena has a resume that is not as strong as we all would want/expect it to be. Any opportunity to play on is a good thing and to jeopardize future opportunities by not attending an "uninspiring" mid major match up on Tuesday is a bad thing for Siena. If it happens make every effort to be there regardless of the matchup.

Congrats to UA, nice win on the road. For what it's worth, I have Albany as a 16 but not in the play in game. They could go either way with them and Coastal Carolina.
