Fran at Iowa in 2010-2011 went 11-20 after taking over for Todd Lickliter (Iowa's version of the PW who went 38-58 the previous three years). Iowa had enjoyed many years of success under Tom Davis and Steve Alford. Fran was left Matt Gatens and Bryce Cartright and really nothing else. He brought in Basabe to help much like Jimmy did with Wright, Long, White and Wolfe.
Iowa was 10-13 in Fran's first year but wears down and finishes at 11-20 with a bunch of close losses. Next year they go 18-17 and make the NIT followed by 25-13 and runner up in the NIT and this year they are 19-6 are almost a lock for the NCAA tournament.
Before someone says it is a lot easier to do from the MAAC then the Big 10 that is true but on the other side of the coin Iowa also has more resources at their disposal than Siena does. The different I see is at the Big 10 level it took a little longer to build it up I don't see it taking that long here.
Jimmy took over the same lousy mess Fran took over at Iowa. Fran got it going there and Jimmy is going to get it going here. It's really that simple.

Fran recruited him out of some junior college because he needed a point guard.

Point is ..it takes time to build a program! I understood the point! Just wanted to correct an inaccurate statement.

And truth be told, some Iowa fans were sold on Fran after his first year. That is just the way some fans are. The results have to be there quicker for some than others.

It's all about circumstances. Mitch did not get a pass year one because he took over a very good program. Was it the team that won three straight MAAC championships? Of course it was not. But it had a lot of championship talent and experience led by maybe the best big man to ever play at Siena (Rossiter). Another very good player in Jackson. Not one player on that team ever knew anything but going to the NCAA tournament. To go 13-18 with those players you knew it wasn't going to end well.
Completely different when a coach takes over a program that has gone 35-59 in 3 years and no player has tasted success. You have to reinstall a winning culture.
But the biggest thing is the talent Jimmy (or Fran at Iowa) were left with. I don't want to knock the returning players but other than Rob Poole (who is really good) Jimmy just didn't inherit a lot certainly nothing like Fran in 2005 or Hewitt in 1997 the other major rebuilding jobs.
