Holy cow - I predicted Hymes should not play more than 22 minutes a game

Well, if offensively he is an par with Hymes and if defensively he hustles as much as Evan, being at least 8" taller, he should be a significant asset next year.

He is also 6'5 compared to 5'7. Right, so then what is his excuse for the turnovers and low percentage? I don't know what height has to do with turnovers and three point shooting, but I'll give you that being taller and stronger should help the way he finishes going to the basket.

Comparison of Hymes this year vs Cole last year MPG - Hymes at 22.7 to 22.4 PPG - Cole 10.3 to 10.1 APG - Hymes 2.6 to 2.2 RPG - Cole 2.8 to 1.9 SPG - Cole 1.2 to 0.6 TPG - Hymes 2.3 to 3.1 FG% - Hymes .402 to .325 3P% - Hymes .339 to .300 I take all the "best player on the team" talk with a grain of salt, however, I still think there is almost zero chance he is going to wind up a bust and he could develop into the best player on the team. He is also 6'5 compared to 5'7. Also Cole was a freshman last year...we have yet to see his sophomore jump which will be his third year in college next season. I'm really excited to see Pat play. He will play both the 2 and 3 for us. If he has the skills to play SG, in addition to SF, well we are really in solid shape. How many 6'5 SGs do you see in the MAAC? The only concern I have is if he could be a bit of a gunner. But that's where Jimmy's coaching comes in. Cole will make everyone better and especially take the pressure off Rob Poole as the go to scorer.

If you compare the freshman numbers it actually looks a lot worse for Cole but the excuse then would be that Hymes was playing so many more minutes. I'm excited to see him play, just no way he's earning anything close to "best player on the team" from me until he shows it on the court in a real game.

He should also be a better defender. As for TO and low percentage, I will say he was a freshman and the best player on his team.

Freshman or not, how many teams only play their best player 22 minutes per game? Cole's Coppin State had four players average double figures, I'm not sure where the notion that he was their best player comes from. Perhaps he was their most talented, but it wasn't like they were relying solely on him to score. His playing time seemed to be more sporadic at the end of last season, too - not sure if there was an issue or falling out of some sort. I'm with you, Scott, that aside from his PPG (which comes mostly from his ability to get to the FT line) his Freshman stats aren't jump-off-the-page outstanding. With that said, surrounding him with complementary pieces should help him improve upon his statistical weaknesses (TO's, shooting %) as well as him admitting that he has matured significantly since arriving on campus. He has the tools to be a significant contributor to this team, and I'm looking forward to seeing him take the court.

As with any recruit we have to wait and see. It is a nice thought that he is a cut above what we have now but...

Leave the hype at the door and put your game on the floor...that's my motto. That said I hope Pat does become a VVS...very valuable Saint! Happy b'day MTS!

You're comparing a freshman vs a jr. Let's see what Coles number look like in 2 seasons. Freshman usually make a jump ... So if he improves on those numbers I would say he'll be a huge help.!
