That’s an awful small lineup. Doty and Jones will have a lot of ups/downs as young freshmen so let’s hold off on anointing them as the saviors based on a couple of games. Plus if they do start and do well you probably increase your chances of losing them at the end of the year. What I would like to see is us running/pressing more to try and create some easier shots in transition. We struggle in the half court. Since there is not a big talent gap between our top 5 and 6-9 you can afford to sub frequently and play at a faster pace. We definitely need more points in transition and have to defend and get back better. GMAC wasn’t happy with that or our spacing which needs to be seriously improved. It’s a fair point that playing two frosh aren’t ideal and it is a small line-up for sure. Maybe just Doty starts but him and Jones should be seeing major minutes regardless. You can’t worry about losing kids. I actually think if they’re playing and engaged they are more likely to stick around at least for a couple of years anyway. We really needed a PG and more rebounding that’s the big issues for the team. While we don’t have to win a MAAC championship this season (though it would be a nice surprise!) I think GMAC knows he needs to have a good season to continue to build back the program to get future quality players in here. The stink of the 23-24 season needs to be wiped away quickly. Agreed, riding the bench when you are outplaying the upperclassman that are playing over you is the quickest ticket to the portal. Would much rather lose someone cause they prove too good for this level than cause we are hiding them on the bench in hopes they don't see enough action to get poached. Honestly, in this era it might actually be a good approach to embrace the one and dones. Build a resume of guys you bring in as freshman and showcase them to move to the next level and you will start attracting better recruits looking to follow that path. We can all hope someday they either institute contracts or reinstate the sit out year for transferring but until then you've got to work the system.

The NCAA needs to get the "contract" concept finalized and effective next year. The Schools and the Players sign a contract for a specific length of time 2-4 years and that will stop the one and done era. The NCAA had that proposal on the drawing board last year I hope the follow through this year. It might have the effect of keeping more coaches in the profession as well as retaining players. I'm sure the coaches would endorse this proposal.

I was not suggesting to not play them in the hope of keeping them for a 2nd year. Was just pointing out the reality that as freshmen they will be inconsistent but those highs will draw attention of higher level suitors. I think they are in the right place in the rotation for now. This isn’t a McCollum situation where it was clear to everyone that he was head and shoulders better than those playing ahead of him.
