In the first game I commented not thinking much of the big men but after last game I was impressed with Wilmoth, Jones and especially Cary, good work men, GO SAINTS!!

Once again, you can not legally bet on New York college teams. Please stop with this nonsense. You certainly can if your buddy or you are in NJ. MA too.

Guard play has been great so far this season, fun to watch. Carey came up big tonight. Nice to see improvement every game. I'm excited by what I've seen so far, with one caveat from all 3 games. That is, it seems that Freeman, Jackson and, at times, Shoats dribble into dense traffic and lose control of the ball resulting in unforced turnovers - Freeman had 10 TOs in the last 2 games. In tight games, those could be trouble, so I hope GMac is attending to that in practice.

In tight games, those could be trouble, so I hope GMac is attending to that in practice. I’m excited so far too. I agree TO’s by major ball handles s/b minimized as much as possible, this year’s team is fairing batter than last year’s team in this category. I’m ok with how they’ve played to start this season and I see a lot of good things (hustle, determination, the “they just don’t quit or get rattled mentality”, just the overall talent level snd team chemistry). Last season we averaged 15.8 TOs/game and opponents avg 9.9/game. This season after 3 D1 games we’re averaging 14 (13, 19 & 10) against some pretty good competition (opponents avg 15.6). We’ve already materially improved on the TO/game margin from last year -6 to now +1. I can live with our PGs TOs (up to this point in time) if we continue to get better overall and are winning. I only see us getting better each game/week. There’s more talent on this team (overall) than it’s showing. We’re no where near our peak yet and we’ll only get better as the season goes on. IMO. Edited: I forgot to point out that the Bryant game where we committed 19 TOS to their 23 I personally believe may have been caused by the fact that Bryant sped us up maybe more than we wanted or needed to play??? If American is as good defensively as they were hyped up to be, only committing 10 seems pretty good and that we’re improving in that category.

5 extra minutes the first 2 games and the top two ball handlers being new to D1 also contributed.
I am more concerned about Freeman’s turnovers than Shoats, his are more of the trying to do too much variety. Shoats seem to be more concentration/miscommunication with teammates.
Either way, both guards are making things happen and coming up clutch late in games. Exactly what the saints needed.

Saints were exposed the past few years for poor gaurd play, embarrassed at times. These starters can handle the ball and when we go to the bench we still have guys who can handle the ball. They are not without flaws, and will improve as the year goes on. It is great to see 3 capable guards on the floor at once. Huge improvement from last year.
