Horrendous shooting day, 3/22 from three. Let's hope that is an anomaly and doesn't continue. That shortcoming and not getting much inside is not a good sign. The second half was an improvement defensively. The end result looks ok but against DIII competition it was not the domination you would want to see. Lots to build on, but a lot of work to be done as the season progresses. Nothing I saw today looks like a top tier finish in the MAAC. Again, lots of work to do. Shouldn't have taken 22 threes when you have a size and athletic advantage. You have to attack the basket. When they did that they scored. Long season. You want to see progress when it counts against Brown. Do watch basketball? This isn't the 70s or 80s. The three point shot is how games are won these days and this century.

When they're not going in sometimes you have to attack the basket and get to the line. But it's an exhibition game so you try different things. They might shoot 10 out of 18 vs Brown from three when it counts is when you want it anyway.

My 2 cents:
I’ll worry about shooting if it continues to be a problem. Ducharme is a plus shooter who had an off night, I expect he’ll be fine. Some others guys that took 3’s I’d expect to not have the green light. It was an exhibition.
What I saw was a team that had length, depth and some intriguing pieces. Certainly enough to put together a really solid 8 man rotation. 75 points, 17 fast break with poor shooting and sub 70% from the free throw line, and only 11 turnovers.
Not a stellar performance but enough to retain optimism about a team that will feature 7 in their top 8 that are new to the program.

Some good stuff but a lot of work to do before we play Brown at MVP on November 4th. Defense was pretty good- offense was ugly - struggled shooting the ball from deep. The team played their best in the second half when they attacked the basket instead of chucking up shots. Freeman and Shoats looked very good. Should be an athletic backcourt. Marcus Jackson is a solid third guard kind of a junkyard dog. Coyle looks more confident. Jones and Brafford looked decent as frosh (Doty wasn't dressed not sure if he's hurt?) Ojo didn't play a lot but should be a key rotational piece. Ducharme looked a little rusty coming off missing most of last year. Carey and Willmoth look like they have some potential. Carey needs to finish inside and just dunk the ball. Hard to tell a lot but we'll definitely take some bumps early on but the hope is we get better as the year goes on. Didn't shoot it well but still found a way to win by 22 and score 75 points. x.com/MarkSingelais/status/1850265205390872845Dody isn't hurt. He's not cleared to play by the NCAA for some reason. But he's expected to be cleared and be back before the season starts.

Jackson has to learn to stay on his feet and stop flopping/begging for a foul! Hard working kid, though.

Not a stellar performance but enough to retain optimism about a team that will feature 7 in their top 8 that are new to the program. After a day of reflection your take is more reasonable than my initial reaction yesterday. I'm sure this team will not hit on only 13% of their threes on the season. If they hit 33% yesterday (certainly not great) they have close to 90 points, which is good against a DIII team that is content to slow the pace of the game. So, all is not lost after the first exhibition game of the season. I'm looking forward to Brown on Nov 4 and hoping for the best. Playing up tempo and hitting the trailing three while mixing in the press when appropriate defensively seems to the be best option going forward for this group. In the half court having a big out on top and hopefully hitting threes at a decent enough percentage to draw out the defensive big and open up the lanes or providing opportunities for the high big to big entry pass would be good as well. That said, I'm sure McNamara knows what adjustments need to be made.

Seems like there's not much interest out here anymore, very few posts after an exhibition game with a new coach. Seems like Carm really killed this board too.

Have you read this board in recent years? A historically bad season certainly reduces interest. But, my issue is more the evolution of this board into what’s it’s become: virtually unreadable and uninteresting. Gone are the insiders bringing good info about what’s going on within the program. Humor is nonexistent. Some is driven by a historically bad season to be sure. Some is related to many long term posters moving on.

Not defending Carm he absolutely deserved to go after the worst season in the history of Siena basketball and the previous seasons of collapse but it's hiring four consecutive mediocre to bad coaches in a row. Let's hope the fifth time is the charm with GMAC and this drought finally ends!

I hope the lack of interest is not associated with most Siena fans hate of Syracuse. Something that always made me wonder why, it's not like they were competing for the same recruits. Let's hope GMac turns the shit show into something worth heading down to MVP for a night out.

Let's hope GMac turns the shit show into something worth heading down to MVP for a night out. Our rival is Iona... nobody hates Syracuse. And if an Iona guy was our coach most people would not care if he won. This program is starved for a winner. Doesn't matter where he comes from. Just win, baby!
