As to the food, I think there are two sets of people, those that go to a game to get arena food and those that will never eat arena food. So 99% of the time it makes sense for the concession stands to cater to the first group. I remember they used to have the TASTENY stand at the games and no one ever ordered from them. I bet that TASTENY would have made a killing yesterday when you essentially forced the second group into eating arena food with the four games in a row. $6.50 for a very warm bottle of soda is disgusting to say the least. MVP food service was extremely poor. Won't see the tourney back here again.

I think the arena looked great for this event. This isnt a PRO arena, and doesnt pretend to be. Im betting our place has the highest capacity % of any region.
Couple complaints Ive seen: Game times has nothing to do with the arena. Thats all on the NCAA. I know it was a short turnaround, but I left out the back way after the game. Had a couple beers and a sub between games, and walked right back in with no wait or lines before the 3rd game tipped off.
Aramark is HORRENDOUS. They dont know what they're doing and it starts right at the top. The arena needs to replace them ASAP. Ran out of ice before halftime of the UConn game?? Saw supervisors behind the counters yelling to forming lines: "We dont have any food choices here!" Say what??
I can see us getting this even back sometime in the future. Hopefully not 17 years. The issue 10 years ago was lack of hotels and they've addressed that with The Renaissance and a few more close by. Our ticket sales and actual fannies in the seats is way too good compared to some others Ive seen.

Like you I was available to avoid the issues re: crowds, but the average fan doesn't know how to do that. I've been to many first rounds now and never witnessed that kind of crowd crush, it's definitely an issue. The food is beyond disgusting and as you say easily fixed on the next contract go around. What really matters is how they treated the teams, so hopefully they did good there. We have the conference center and hotel Capacity so hopefully we get on the rotation every five years so.

Does anyone else who attended the tournament yesterday in Albany think it was a complete sh1tshow? The basketball was top shelf, great to see all these teams in town. But the tipoff times by the NCAA, including tomorrow's (6:10 & 8:40), show no concern for people with jobs, those who travel long distances, students, etc. Real arrogance. But the condition of the arena is worse. Broken seats, rest room lines that backed up onto the seating level, toilets that don't flush, running out of food, the between-sessions food availability outside the arena--we were fortunate that the weather wasn't rainy or cold. I try to look at it from what out-of-towners are experiencing, and I can't imagine they were positively impressed by the condition of the MVP. I hope their experiences with local hotels and restaurants were better. CBS’ $1.1 billion determines what time games are to begin Moving back to NY we became season ticket holders … my wife complained that there was no wait for a stall but the line formed at the hand dryers plus water was cold. Contacted arena and got no response, contacted D’Arg and he got them to put in two paper towel dispensers but they installed them above the sinks rather that the back exit wall. This all happened pre-renovation… it looks like all the bathrooms got were a coat of paint out of the multi-million dollar upgrade Every highway rest stop has at least 6 hand dryers in both men & women bathrooms … MVP has a total of 8 for 15k patrons/fans Think I’ll be writing to the NCAA next.

It's a shame the overall arena experience is the biggest roadblock in having the Tournament come back. It was amazing to see the arena packed with 14,000 fans. Watching on TV every year, I am shocked to see so many empty seats in other arenas during the first weekend. The fan interest here is off the charts. Some of that had to do with UConn being picked to play here, but I think it would have sold out anyway. I know several people who wanted tickets but couldn't get them.
Being a Siena season ticket holder, I knew the arena experience was going to be rough with it being so packed, but I underestimated how rough it would be. Food was subpar (I didn't know that because I never get food at Siena games). I actually didn't have any problems with the staff- I thought they did the best they could with the bad hand they were dealt.
A few weeks ago, I laughed when Steve Ballmer was jumping up and down and crowing about how there were going to be over 1,000 toilets and urinals at the new LA Clippers arena. After my experience here, the next time Ballmer talks about toilets and urinals, I'll be jumping and yelling with him.
The situation outside between games... the less said the better. It could have gotten ugly, but thankfully cooler heads prevailed (that I know of).
I hope we can get this back here, but there is so much competition in the northeast (Hartford, Boston, Buffalo, Syracuse, MSG, Barclays, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Providence, perhaps UBS in Elmont) and so many arenas across the country that are flat out better than MVP. I made sure to enjoy the weekend knowing it may not come back.

Im assumming a lot of posters on this board attended the NCAA First Round at the MVP Arena a few months ago. Indiana played 2 games (beating Kent St and losing to Miami) and they had a GREAT player named Trayce Jackson-Davis. 6'9" 245lb forward that led the team in every stats except steals. What stood out to me, not only could be really block shots (3 a game), but he handled the ball so well on fast breaks. I thought he was a surefire 1st round pick, yet he lasted to 57??
Kid avg 21/11/4/3 for the year, and no he's not Drew Timme. His game DOES translate to the next level. Not sure what happened there, but the Lakers took his teammate Jalen Hood-Schifino a 6'5" guard who I wasnt impressed with at all. Sure it was a short sample size of 2 games here, but I didint see an NBA player in him. Kid only shot 41.7/33.3 over the whole season, so he's not a very good shooter. And I remember the Miami guards beating him off the dribble at will.
Maybe the Lakers handed the wrong card for the kid with 3 names?? lol I think Golden State got an absolute steal here.
Anyone else remember that Indiana team??

Anyone else remember that Indiana team?? I LOVED Jackson-Davis's game and I also can't figure out why he lasted so long in the draft. The only thing I can think of was that he was SO under control--almost like he lacked fire? He was certainly the dominant presence in their games. He's also the son of former Pacer Dale Davis, for those old enough to remember the Reggie Miller teams of the '90s.
