Never expected Gaines back off that terrible injury. Wish him the best coming back strong as he begins his pro career!
Same stuff was said last year. Siena managed a top 3 finish and winning record. Bad start and bad finish to the year but at one point won 15 out of 22.
Doesn’t matter where we are picked. Carm has finished in the top 3 all 3 years so he gets the benefit of the doubt for now.
We need big sophomore years from Billups and McCallum— Stormo to be very good inside and Platek to return strong from injuries.
Carm needs contributions from a bunch of the frosh Eley, Owens (RS), Gribbon, Coyle, Tekin and kid from Iceland.
Kellier, Johnson and Baer can be solid role players off the bench.
Sure there’s a lot of questions but potentially some really good answers.
The Italy trip from August 18-28 will be very important for the team.
Stay positive.
Go Saints!!!!

Carm needs to run plays for Stormo to make it worth having him on the floor for long stretches. He clogs the paint too much for Carm's preferred "attack and finish" style if the offense isn't running through him, and we don't have enough shooters that can create their own shots to force that space. Stormo isn't mobile enough to consistently beat his man, and any zone will pretty much eat Siena alive. If Kellier can improve his outside shot (Showed some hints of it last year, but struggled most of the time), he can help run the 5 in a small ball lineup, which I think is where Siena will be strong. Playing in transition with plenty of kick out potential would really be Siena's bread and butter. He doesn't need to be a 35% shooter, but showing signs of life outside while being more mobile than Stormo inside would help immensely.
We also need Eley to be able to run the point for short periods. Whether or not Tekin works out in the long run, I'm not expecting him to be much use this year. It's too different a playstyle from Europe. Without Hopkins, we have no backup ball handler that I'd really trust on the court, and McCollum is too injury prone to risk running him 38 minutes a game.
The Final thing we need is for you to put some respect on McCollum's name and actually spell it without an 'A' lol

Regarding the trip. Is the entire roster eligible to go?

Not sure why AG had to tie up a scholarship & roster spot, if the school wanted to do right by him there must have been other options like removing him from the roster and utilizing non basketball scholarship funding.
This hurts especially with a player like UMASS’s CJ Kelly who averaged 10.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists just hitting the portal as a grad transfer & we can’t even enter the discussion.

We're sure he's still tying up a scholly? Things have changed since that was announced. And thought I heard that a long-term medical issue that makes you unable to play had some kind of clause where it didn't use one of the 13 schollys.

That was the word earlier with AG, did his scholarship go to one of the 1st year walk-on’s? We currently have 17 players, VC has us with 5 walk-on’s (Coyle, Courtney Dags, Gribben, Lazar) If accurate that’s 12 scholarships, plus Gaines is 13. Kelly’s well traveled (may have 2 years eligibility left so I’m not sure about the grad transfer comment I made above) but anyway he’s probably not the type of guy Carm is after, Kelly can’t seem to stay put with any program longer than a season.

I'm with you and the team all the way. That's why you play the games and have the season! No need to be negative before they even throw out the first ball. It's going to be interesting to see how the season goes. Some of us will be there, through the good and the bad.

I understand that Platek is also coming back from an injury but he's going to have a full year of recovery. If he's healthy we have two excellent players to handle the PG position or how ever Carm runs the offense. IF they stay healthy we'll still need a strong third guard to fill in where ever needed. With these two guards I like our odds of "pushing the ball" on offense this season. Carm might actually be able to "attack and finish " this season.

In all honesty talk is fine but you better have talent or be really dominant at something like St Pete’s was defensively or you’ve got nothing.

So 3 straight years of paying a kid NOT to play on the team??
Makes no sense.
And for those saying the 13th scholarship loss is no big deal, remember that Marc Brown was Mike Deanes 13th, and final scholarship years ago.
I do know lack of depth has bit us in the ass the last few years, so this philosophy of only going to battle with 12 scholarship players EVERY year is crazy.

Sure seems like we are one impact portal kid from being a contender. If Gaines isn't playing then go out and get someone as a year rental.
