It's the off season and I've got too much time on my hands waiting for the season to start. Mike (MTS) probably has a count down calendar on his computer/phone app to the start of the Italy trip, official fall practice, first game, etc.. I was thinking about all the great players Siena played against, literally hundreds of "all time greats". … . I'm missing hundreds but these came to mind w/o thinking too much. Great memories especially when Siena came out on top against them. . Italy trip is from August 18-28 so Siena leaves in 69 days from today. I knew I could count on you for knowing this. 🙂

No, we were small college basketball playing Cortland, Assumption, etc. Those guys were playing a major schedule. Before resuming the series with St. Bonaventure not that long ago, the last time Siena played the Bonnies was in the 1960-61 season. Bonaventure edged the Indians 99-45.

Curtis Sumpter
Ok, Ok, but it was slim pickings in 2003 when Siena played Villanova in a home NIT game. Sumpter dropped 23 on us, but Siena won 74-59. The Wildcats dressed 7 players with five seeing most of the action as the rest were suspended for their participation in a telephone scandal. Think about how far the NCAA has come... today mobile companies are paying players thousands of dollars to dribble a basketball; in 2003 they couldn't even call mama for free.

I am pretty sure that Lenny Wilkens and his Providence team played against Siena in the late 1950s.

I am pretty sure that Lenny Wilkens and his Providence team played against Siena in the late 1950s. You're right. Wilkens played at Providence from 1957-58 thru 59-60 (no freshman eligibility back then). Siena played Providence in each of those years. Indians were 0-3. Siena was 5-15 in 57-58, but lost by only four to Providence, 56-52. Next year (58-59), Siena had an overall record of 3-16, and lost to the Friars 79-44. In Lenny's last season at Providence, the Indians lost to PC again, this time by a score of 47-35, while having an overall record of 3-18. This is the last time Siena would play Providence until 2018-19, Jamion's only year as head coach; Saints lost 77-67. Siena has an overall 4-11 record against Providence.
