IPTAY you and I were there on the floor looking up at the cheerleaders. I think they were girls. we were also with a group of Siena fans at the Great Alaska Shootout on a Thanksgiving weekend. Good old times. Hankla, was that the tournament/trip where you shouted out to Mike Deane that you didnโt come this far to watch the team play like Crap? And he heard you? ๐ Or, was that one of the Las Vegas trips? What teams did we play in those Las Vegas trips, any superstars? IS ,as far as I can recall there was only one Vegas Trip and I think Hewitt was the coach. I can remember Oklahoma State being in that three day tournament in Henderson Nevada. tournament due to the large number of their fans dressed in orange and wearing cowboy hats. Remark that you have substance of occurred a lot closer than Vegas or Alaska. It happened at Vermont which in those days wasn't very good. Five or six fans had rented a van to go to the game. The van had a sliding door which didn't close tightly. We traveled in very cold weather trying to keep from freezing to death or at least getting frostbite. Siena played like crap in a gym which in those days didn't come close to selling out. Siena wins the game only because Vermont's last shot spins out after going halfway down. I think that Mike won the game by changing his utilization of Jeff Robinson. Don't ask me what change he made. Years later when Tom Brennan was at a Siena or maybe a Mike Deane event he and I spoke about the game.

Not necessarily a great player but an all time great performance was Cameron Young with 55 point in 54 minutes going head to head with Jalen Pickett's 46 points and 13 assists in Siena's 107-100 3OT victory. Unfortunately, it was a loss.

Another "not necessarily a great player" but one of the greatest performances against Siena I have ever witnessed was on 1/7/87 by Gary Bossert from Niagara in the ARC. It was only only a few games into the first season for the 3 point shot. I believe Bossert was a senior guard who stood less than six feet. He basically singlehandedly beat us that night, scoring 37 points in a 97-88 win for Niagara. But what was remarkable was his stat line of 12-14 from beyond the arc. Bossert's only other shots were a 1-3 effort from the line. I fell in love with the three point shot that night.
BTW Siena had some pretty good shooters on that team; Ricky Williams, Jeff Robinson, Matt Brady...

Sura was one of the first "sleepers" that was under recruited until the relatively new USA Today featured him for a big game in his Pa. town. Without that article, Fla. St might never heard of him, and we had a legit shot. Pretty sure our Stanford win in the NCAA's got us in the door!

First post in a long time. Re good players, John Griffin was able to bring in St Joe's to the ARC. St Joe's had Maurice Martin who was drafted in the 1st round by Denver and played a couple of seasons with them. Before that, around 1968, small college St Peter's came to Gibbons Hall for a game with Siena featuring the great Elnardo Webster, Rich Rinaldi and Ed Strong on their squad. The all-male Siena campus waited all week for that game only to see an easy win by St. Peter's. obits.nj.com/us/obituaries/starledger/name/elnardo-webster-obituary?id=33934352And lastly, way, way back in '47 or so, when the Indians were ranked as high as 11 or 12 nationally, I imagine there were some great players that the Dan Cunha teams played against.

Recall Hartford had a big guy named Baker who played in the ARC a few times and had a NBA run. First name escapes me.

Adonal Foyle(?) of Colgate . I think he was in the NBA but didn't last. He was a lottery pick and had a 10 year NBA career. Did OK for himself. I saw him play in the Class D high school state tournament. A really good tiny rural school from near where I grew up gave his Hamilton team a run for their money in the opening round pressing the entire game, forcing Foyle to bring the ball up the court making him look more awkward than a newborn Bambi. Hamilton ended up squeaking out a 3 point win. They went on to blow out every other team in the tournament. One of the most fun High school games I can remember.

Foyle was incredible at Colgate. I remember watching him (not against Siena) get a triple double and was only a few assists away from a quadruple double. One of the best performances I've ever seen.
Vin Baker was Hartford, 8th pick in the NBA Draft

No mention of Iman Shumpert who was on the Georgia Tech team that lost in 2010, decent NBA career and had one of the more ridiculous dunks I've seen at MVP Arena:
