Look at verbal commits and see how many kids are still unsigned. So many of these kids would have been committed two years ago. It’s amazing and many will have to do prep or find a D2 school and then prove themselves and make jump after

Wonder how many received offers that were “beneath” them?

At least three kids that we allegedly offered have committed to D2/3. On the flip side many of these kids have gone way too high in the past so maybe they are falling to the correct level

More likely there are simply not enough D1 scholarships to go around for HS seniors and prep kids anymore thanks to the portal. This marks the beginning of a lesson for such kids - you get a D1 offer, take it. Because if you keep playing the game of waiting for a better offer, you're not going to have a chair when the music stops. I think a lot of dudes who jumped headfirst into the portal looking to upgrade their college as if they were upgrading their cell phone are learning a lesson too. An athletic scholarship to a D1 college is relatively rare (there are only a little over 4600 total, a quarter of which available to new players each year) and they are not the easily tradeable commodity they treat them as.

Keep in mind the extra COVID year is taking away a lot of slots as well as kids are staying for that extra year.

I think it is an indication of ability. How many D2 players did we sign over the years like Maurice White, Darwiche, - they end up being roster filler then get recruited over

If the coaching staff knew that D2 was their ceiling then those were bad/poor choices. I’d find it hard to believe they really thought D2 was those players’ ceilings. JMO

I’ll take misses as long as some of those under recruited players pay off. I guess you can’t bat 1000 on trying to identify under recruited talent. Keep trying coach, you’ll get those diamonds in the rough. Hey, as they say to achieve the elusive.400 batting avg, you have to strike out 6 out of 10 times.

Hey, as they say to achieve the elusive.400 batting avg, you have to strike out 6 out of 10 times. Not exactly. You can make an out six out of ten times and achieve a .400 batting average, but they don't all have to be strikeouts. Plenty of other ways to make those six outs.

True but I think my point still stands. To achieve a batting average of .400, one must fail to get a hit 6 or if 10 time at bat. Carm and staff may fail at identifying under recruited talent but as long as they find those diamonds in the rough I’m ok with those “misses”. Some will disagree and that’s ok too.
