He cratered in his last year with a 6-24 record and a first round maac loss to Iona I think. That followed a sub .500 the year before. The trend was downward and his firing was appropriate. Good recruiter, terrible coach. Took him a long time to get back to head coach stint.See what happens at SMU.

And look at the talent on that 6-24 team. It took an almost impossibly bad coaching job to go 6-24 with all those talented players. He absolutely needed to be let go at that point. Thrilled to see he's learned a lot since and got another chance and he's running with it. But in no reality would things have worked out if Siena had kept him. He simply was not ready to be a good head coach at that point in his career and things were getting worse each year.

Another former Siena coach makes it Big! 5 years $10M. Congrats to Rob one of my all-time favorite people to have been the Siena Coach. A solid, down to earth human being. He was young and not as experienced as he should have been when he was Saints HC but you could tell he was going to have a successful career. Wishing him continued success and lots of W's at SMU. This is a good point if he does well at SMU it should be used as further evidence of this being a great starting point for good head coaches.

If Carm can rev things up at Siena in the next few years (e.g. no first round MAAC tourny exits), he'll be in line for a jackpot too.

Lanier was 52-46 with an NCAA and NIT appearance in his first 3 years. 4th year was awful trying to depend on a very talented freshman class (McClinton, Kojo. Fisher x2) and he finished 6-24.
Should have been sat down and given an ultimatum he had to add a veteran coach to sit on his bench in year 5. He def deserved that after a very solid 3 year run before the horrible last year. That sophomore class was going to be great, and he obviously needed a god big kid to come aboard.
He got run out of town too soon IMO. That guy could really recruit. Just needed a Donnie Bassett on his bench.
