Goodbye Monmouth. As I predicted before your arrival, you did zip for the conference. O Maac tournament titles and you choked with Robinson. Twice. You won't be missed.

Will be interesting if the MAAC stays at 10 (and 18 league games which means more room for 2 more OOC games) for a while or add someone. Rumors and QU and/or Fairfield could move down the line. You need 8 to keep the auto qualifier so I think the MAAC will always be at least 10.

Maybe I am missing something ( as I often do).... but I really enjoyed having Monmouth in the conference. They have a great home facility, and I liked their style of play - they play with pace and push the ball whenever possible. I think their record often was in the upper half of the conference and Siena has had some memorable games with them. King Rice and his staff sure know about big time hoop - so I thought they were good for the MAAC. Sorry to see Monmouth leave!!

I laid it out in the post above, IE one more program splitting scarce NCAA revenue without ever adding to the revenue pool themselves... but here is one more to jog your memory.... good riddance www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/college-basketball/2016/1/15/10778326/iona-monmouth-fight-video

If a program never wins it shouldn't be here.

Since I have always been someone who has never appreciated Iona and their program, I guess I let that one go!!! Thanks for the reference!

Let's not be so dismissive of Monmouth. Within a few short years it was Hello Siena, Good bye Siena as they went NEC, MAAC, CAA in the blink of an eye. And here we sit!

It's not being dismissive but recognizing that they were never going to add value to the conference because they were never committed to winning basketball. If this conference wants to survive it needs to find programs that are committed to its vision of being a basketball first conference. It was easy to see what was always going to happen, at least to some anyway.

I can't see 12 teams. I wonder if Fairfield and/or Quinnipiac is going to the America East or CAA?

I can't see 12 teams. I wonder if Fairfield is going to the CAA? Rumor has it Fairfield wasn't interested in CAA. Their LAX team just joined the A-10. Quinnapiac has been rumored as a school moving to the AE along with Bryant and one other team. However that doesn't make much sense to me as that's a lateral move at best. Maybe a spot in Hockey East is driving that discussion.

Didn't someone say a while back the MAAC would be adding Wagner? Not excited about that possibility but also don't know what realistic options are out there.
