New coach whose hiring gave me hope of having interest in the team can't win with prior coach's recruits and a few of his own.

I was just thinking the same things and of course IS does. How can we possibly be this bad?

Yes, as BigsaintG said, I do. There’s other women’s season ticket holders who still care about the women’s team/program; as evidence of their presence at the last game against the best team in the MAAC. Jim and the team will grow this support over the next few years. I have faith in that.
Is this the record I thought we’d have, no.
Am I worried, no; it now appears it may take an extra year longer to get back to the top of the MAAC than I originally thought.
Three more seasons (2024-25) is my revised guess for Siena Women to win the MAAC Championship.
It’s remotely possible it’ll still occur in two more season (2023-24) but I think we’ll need that extra year after all.
Then we can revisit this thread and ask that question again.
Let’s Go Saints!!!

I guess we have to cut Jabir more slack until he has a team full of his recruits. I don't know if Ali would do much better but if she was here I don't think this team is 0-10, maybe 3-7. Running off your best post player concerns me.

Running off your best post player concerns me. At 21 points & 18 fouls this season in 9 games doesn’t sound like our best post player to me. He moved Philoxy to center the last two games and she has 20 rebounds in those two games to La La’s 34 for 9 games. I think Philoxy is the better option.

So you're Ok with Jabir running her off. I think in a conference with Marist and Quinnipiac you can have more than one experienced player in the post. Philoxy may be a better option but in some games that might've been true for Lala.

We don’t know the whole story but I guess you can say yes I’m ok with it “if” he “ran her off”. My guess is “if” that were the case then after giving her a chance to learn the new system and it wasn’t working out, sometimes you have to cut loose players that don’t fit your system. I’m not a coach or player and don’t know what happened but I do believe in giving new coaches the benefit of doubt. Personally, I don’t like losing any Siena player but I don’t get to make those decisions. All I know from what I’ve heard and read is that Coach J has won at programs he was at before and I’m expecting the same for Siena. Isn’t that what us fans want (winning programs)? I know I do.

I hope he’s correct (players finally buying into what he’s been trying to teach them) and this is the turning point. "It feels nice because you could kind of feel the improvement over the week," Jabir said. "You started to see the kind of buy-in that we hadn't seen before. They were starting to apply the stuff we've been teaching. There wasn't as much resistance. ... They were always trying to find a reason why something wouldn't work. And now they're starting to listen and now we're coaching basketball instead of attitudes and that's really cool."

To me the significant takeaway from Iona game was how an 0-10 team down by 9 in the 4th quarter score 14 unanswered points to win the game … finally they executed what the coaches have been trying to instill all season rather than quitting … was it an anomaly- next game will tell
Note: better shot selection & ball movement now that they learned to spread the floor

Totally agree with SIENA1971. As the great coach Pete Newell once said: "To win basketball games, two things must happen. 1) You need to take better shots than your opponent (and that speaks to your offense) and 2) you need to take more shots than your opponent (and that speaks to your defense)". Evidently that is what happened during the 4th quarter. Also, in the games I have been to this year the spacing was not good - too bunched together. Spacing is offense and offense is spacing. Hopefully this win will get them going - time will tell.

IS: Judging by the number of responses here a lot of people besides you and me are still interested in the womans' program. I hope that win last night is the start of a long winning streak. Philoxy got 38 minutes and was a big factor in the win. Coach Jabir is pleased. If it took dismissing a couple of players for the "light bulbs" to go off in some players heads or the team finally decided to buy in to what Coach J was teaching then it's all good. As far as Lala Watts by what was reported in the TU and what I read online it was not her decision to leave. If she was insubordinate in some way then coach had to take action. I have never heard anything bad about her in that way. I just feel she could be an asset to the team, she had a half season left in her college career and I think she deserved to finish it out.

I agree that I thought she’d be serviceable as a big. Turns out the coach disagreed with my thought.
Yes, I agree sounds like from the TU article she didn’t want to leave.
I’m assuming the coach gave her time to do what he asked and then cut her loose
Why is that bad?
To me it’d be bad “if” the coach wanted her gone w/o giving her an opportunity. He gave her 9 games, I’m assuming she couldn’t or wouldn’t do what he wanted and therefore she wasn’t asked back.
I’m giving coach the benefit of doubt.
He’s been successful at three other colleges why wouldn’t he eventually be successful here? That’s my opinion.

Of course Iona sucks so it’s hard to judge that victory. But I’ll take it and look forward to a Marist upset on Thursday.
