Yet somehow he managed to start on a league champ/NCAA bound team as a freshman? Must have been for window dressing. typical casual fan assessment of a players talent and response on here. He actually avg. 5.3 pts per game for Siena. I am referring to his complete body of work for his 2 years in college. I do not see him as an impact player or one that would make a significant difference if he was to come back to Siena. Which BTW I do not believe will ever happen. Saints need top level talent to compete in the MAAC. I do not see Gary as that type of player. Exciting? Yes, complete player that would help Siena win and compete for MAAC championship? No. Plenty of more talented basketball players out there.

Why would Siena like to take back a freshman who averaged 5.3 pts. a game on an 1st place team. Maybe because he was the most athletic, highest jumping player we have had in a very long time. Sure he was green but that is why you have coaches to help that player improve and maybe because we are ranked around 280 something. Also he would be a gazelle in that fast paced team the coach says he has wanted for the past 3yrs.GO SAINTS!!

Gary was a basketball project, and the hope was while he was at Siena that he could develop his game significantly........he was a weak perimeter shooter, iffy at the FT line, with mediocre handle...........BUT his athleticism was off the charts and he was a missle on the fast break, he also showed the ability with length to defend other teams athletes plus swat away shots at any time..............his floor IQ wasn't exactly at a high level either............best of luck to him finding the right spot...........

Siena thrives on projects. Most mid and low majors do. You get the guys with crazy potential, coach them up and teach them your system, make them thrive that way. Get your immediate impact players from the portal while building your projects, then let them take the reins when they're ready, ala Ogunyemi, Bisping, Poole, and more recently seemingly McCollum and Billups (though I'd say McCollum was pretty much ready to play, just needed some time to get used to D1). Harris would have been a perfect candidate to be an absolute stud come his junior or senior year with the right coaching. He had the right tools, just needed to develop them. Jumping around so much isn't doing his development any favors, now.

Unfortunately this type of casualty is only going to increase in frequency with the new transfer rules. Sure some will succeed, but many others lured by what they think is a better opportunity will fall by the wayside and into oblivion.

I wish Gary the best of luck- great athlete for sure, just not a student of game, With Billups and others just not sure he would get much times here at Siena

Billups is a better version of Harris. Almost as athletic, but can shoot better, has a better handle and can defend the entire court.

Pretty sure Harris will be able to play for wherever he goes next year as he sat out last year.
Best athlete I ever saw at Siena.

I’d pass on Harris. He’s an athlete playing basketball, had no touch or feel for the game 2 seasons ago and judging by his playing time likely hasn’t improved since. We have a slightly less athletic, but better version of him in Billups
