Do we really need him with Platek back next year and Owens ready to go? That’s in addition to Rogers and Billups and Carp (who I assume play play more and more off the ball as McCollum develops)? I kid….just messing with you. Lol Different player and skill set vs Platek, Owens is a big ? health wise, players like Billups and McCollum are susceptible to transferring given the new rules. Oh and how many players did we have go down with injuries this year? So in short we need him. Looks like a plus to me! Welcome Mr Martin! Hopefully we work on the 4/5 next and add another PG.

Platek is no guarantee to come back. Id say its 50/50 after a long rehab, not playing with Gaines and possible European opportunities.

This young man certainly has skills and talent! What's the whole story on him? Has it been purely academic problems in the past or more. I'm hoping the answer is male immaturity and he has grown up a lot. He certainly is talented! I saw where he was listed as a PG. After watching the tape, this kid looks like he can play everywhere except at the 5.

I like this commitment. He has athleticism at 6'-5" or 6'-6", and can shoot the three. I don't know if he is a point guard from an assist/turnover ratio of 1:1, but he is a player. Still need a shot-blocking/rebounding big with skill in the paint, a long SF/PF with scoring ability/defense and another true PG.

I hate to ask, but has he been cleared by Admissions to enroll at Siena?

Another plus to this signing is that he went to a Putnam academy in CT. They produce a lot of D1 players every year and maybe this helps strengthen a relationship

I hate to ask, but has he been cleared by Admissions to enroll at Siena? Good question. I’m only assuming it’s not an issue otherwise maybe we wouldn’t have heard of this official announcement/offer. I’m sure it’ll depend in the actual paperwork but in theory it’s “a Go” (approved).

Can he play this semester or is he a fall recruit? Good question. I’m assuming next fall (that’d be what I’d what to happen unless he’s allowed 2.5 years of eligibility). Would hate to only have him for two springs and two fall only semesters and leave halfway in a basketball season. While it’d be a bonus if we could have him available for this season’s NCAA Tournament I’d prefer him available for Siena’s next two season’s NCAA Tournament runs. 🙂

Platek is no guarantee to come back. Id say its 50/50 after a long rehab, not playing with Gaines and possible European opportunities. Doesnt Haines have another year of eligibility? I thought he was injured 1 of the 4 years he was at NW. That would mean he could have a year with Gaines. Besides, unless there’s something materially wrong with his rehab he believes he’s coming back to play for Siena next season. I’m looking forward for his return.

Im under the impression Gaines is one and done here. I only mentioned him because he and Platek were City Rock teammates coming up. I hope Platek comes back, but I just think its a coin flip at this point. He put his life on hold for a final season of quality minutes at home, and it didnt work out. Is he willing to do again? Maybe, but he may want to play in Europe after a long year of rehab.

I would think Platek would have better opportunities in Europe off a good season with Siena as opposed to coming off an achilles tear and only getting part time work in 5 games. That and finishing the Masters would seem good incentive to come back.

If he put in for a medical RS his one year he only played 10 games would the NCAA grant him the extra year of eligibility? If so, he might want to come back because on paper our team will only be better next year with most players back and more experienced. Heck, this year’s team hasn’t reached its potential and could surprise and win the MAAC Tournament. I keep holding out hope with that until they lose in the Tournament. 🙂
