We do have 14 scholarships this year. Hopkins doesnt count towards the 13. I think we have a of talent 1-11. We're just very thin upfront. Hopefully Baer or Tertesa can provide some relief for Stormo. This does mean we need at least 2 bigs in the '22 recruiting class. Baer will be our biggest returning player. We’re currently working under the assumption Stormo will be back and can hit the portal harder if that changes. I too am assuming he stays at Siena one more drain (his COVID 5th year).

I'm counting 11 with Young as 12 and maybe Platek as 13. Am I missing someone? Siena is “allowed” 14 scholarships this year because Hopkins who would have graduated gets the COVID extra year. We currently have 14 players taking up 12 scholarships (2 walk-ons) unless they chose to give any walk-in a ship. That leaves 2 more ships we can fill this season and still be within legal limits. Platek is a grad student and I can’t remember if he graduated in three years and we’d need a shop or he’d be a free ship for the COVID 5th year. All I remember is with Young in the team we still had at least one available ship. Now that he’s gone from the team that frees up another ship because I’m assuming Siena’s paying he say for not playing by other than ship means. Just because the NCAA is allowing a 14th scholarship doesn't mean that Siena is. A lot of schools are saving money and not paying for the extra scholarships. Would be very different if NCAA was allowing an extra scholarship AND paying for it. I believe a grad student counts against the scholarships if he transfers. You only get the extra scholarships for someone that stays with the same program. Not positive though.

Agree, there’s a difference between what’s allowed (13+ due to COVID year) and what schools are going to offer. I was simply saying that Siena is allowed at least the 14 (because I’m unsure if Platek’s situation) and we currently have used 12 (that I’m aware of) for the 14 players currently in the team. So, I think my comment is correct in that Siena could offer two more ships and still be a/in NCAA regulations. I’m also assuming the Young shop is freed up since he’s no longer on the team; otherwise we only have one ship left. BTW, why do you think Siena wouldn’t maximize the 14 ships? They’ve already shown where they pay more than players even play situations (Arrington, young, etc.). Why would they stop now, especially if Carm finds someone available who fits his system?

What’s frustrating is that I’ve been screaming for months that Carm should have done everything in his power to get a good, athletic 4/5 from the portal. Maybe Baer/Tertsea can do the job? I don’t know…time will tell but we’d be in such a better place right now had Carm just seen what I (and many others) so clearly saw.

I'm basing it solely on the fact that 14 scholarships were not given out. If I'm the coach and I have 14 available scholarships then I'm going to fill those even if I'm grabbing another high character grad transfer kid to be a practice player. It seems more likely that the school did not give him the option to give out 14 scholarships.

Good Lord 94. Your humility is about the size of a pea! Based on……? My pointing out that many fans (including myself) have been clamoring for an athletic 4/5 and now it appears that could have REALLY come in handy??? Based on that you feel justified in drawing conclusions about my humility (or lack thereof) Ohh the irony!!!

Young just decided to not play. Prior to that Young was the 13th ship and Platek was presumably the 14th. How is Siena holding Carm back? Now that Young is not on team that frees up that 14th ship (assuming one’s going to Platek since he enrolled at Siena). I guess I’m not following you logic with the known time line.

Are we sure Siena’s using the scholarship versus other financial aid? Then there blows Scott’s incorrect assumption that Siena won’t find all 14 ships. 😂 Siena’s using ships for players who aren’t even playing so “yes” they’ll fund all 14 (once Platek gets approved) and if he doesn’t we’ll have one available for a mid season transfer.

No other form of aid is allowed to be used towards the 13 scholarship players. Our 14th is a Covid/graduate case, and the only one I know of.

Like many others, I'm concerned about the turnover of players and coaches, even in these days of easy player movement. But for now I'm willing to give Carm benefit of the doubt. And why not all he has done is win the MAAC regular season his first two years. No need to panic, lets see how year goes. With all the new players cant wait for Oct 25th to get a look at this squad. Given the turnover, I can see why picks are all over the place. I usually have a fairly decent feel on how year will go. I admit I have no idea on this year. But for now in Carm I trust Siena basketball coach dismisses 'conspiracy theories' www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Siena-basketball-coach-dismisses-conspiracy-16500687.phpONE TO WATCH Throughout the offseason, Maciariello has been pleased with the development of freshman Jared Billups, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard from Maryland. That’s continued. “Jared Billups has a chance to be a special player,” Maciariello said. dailygazette.com/2021/09/30/young-no-longer-with-siena-mens-basketball/

Not to say there's not concern, but definitely have to give Carm the benefit of the doubt. As Tony says MAAC reg season champs 2 years running. Much of the turnover is related to covid and the crazy rules surrounding extra years and exemptions for transfers to sit.
I will say it was commented here that there were comments here last year about Ky;e's demeanor while he was on the bench and we know he has a fiery attitude. I kept hoping he would get it under control and focus it to his play. So couple conclusions here:
I wish Kyle the best. I think he can make an implact on the court somewhere. I don't think CBB has heard the last from him.
And this season will certainly be a challenge for Carm with all the new faces and a short (double meaning and pun intended) front court. It will really be interesting to see how he uses the players he has and if we see his intended style of play. Truly his team now.
But as I said, giving him the pass for sure.

Agree with you and Tony, but I would say that Carmen should also do some soul searching and see if there is anything he can do to calibrate his demeanor and how he handles kids. Continuous improvement is a facet of any good leaders mindset. Maybe the assistant from The Jazz can give him some coaching as well
