If web lose to the Bonnies it won't necessarily tell us much. If we lose at home to Delaware, we have a long row to hoe. Doesn't matter till January. Remember a couple years ago? We had a rough OOC. But by mid-Jan, we were clicking on all cylinders and went on a nice streak. It's a team with many new faces and I expect will take a while to gel. We have to be patient and give them time to come together.

I think Blue Ribbon is an excellent publication, but the MAAC preview of Siena calls Aidan Carpenter a forward in one place and a combo guard in another.

So when do the Siena men begin practices? UA men and Siena women have started, along with many others across the country.

I think “official” practices usually start in mid Oct; maybe tied to xx days before your first game or something like that. While there may be “practices” before that date I guess it’d be considered preseason type limited practices.

NCAA allows official practices to begin 42 days before any regular season game, so for Siena that would be Tuesday, Sept 28. However, they can only practice on 30 days during that period. So perhaps Carm prefers 6x per week for 5 weeks rather than 5x per week for 6 weeks?

sienasaints.com/news/2021/10/4/mens-basketball-maciariello-appoints-captains-announces-addition-of-dagostino.aspx"Our captains put Siena Basketball first," said Maciariello. "AG, Nick, Rob, and Jackson embody what it means to wear the Green and Gold, are dedicated and committed to all that we value as a program, and embrace and live our standards. They all give 100% in all that they do 100% of the time, and understand what an honor and privilege it is to share this captainship with their brothers." “Gaines … is set to suit up for his first of two seasons of eligibility for the Saints this winter.” Be kind of cool to get 2 years from him.

Wait, what??? Gaines has 2 years??? Two years of eligibility but some have stated they think he may only be here for 1-yr (maybe due to graduating with a masters or something). I’m holding out hope that if he wants to return, Siena will let him. sienasaints.com/news/2021/4/22/mens-basketball-siena-basketball-welcomes-four-talented-newcomers.aspxGaines will have two seasons of eligibility with Siena after spending the past four years at Northwestern, where he served as team captain each of the past two seasons. The Kingston, New York native appeared in 97 career games including 35 starts for the Wildcats, averaging 5.1 points and 3.8 rebounds spanning 22.8 minutes. The 6-4, 210-pound guard saw action in 23 games including five starts this past season, averaging 3.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 20.9 minutes. He scored a season-high 11 points at Rutgers (Feb. 13), and added a pair of double digit rebound performances highlighted by a career-high 12-rebound effort in a win over Chicago State (Dec. 5).

Wait, what??? Gaines has 2 years??? Technically yes, since he redshirted in 2018-19 with an injury at Northwestern and had last year as the free year. I’d be pretty surprised if we get two years from him, if nothing else because the pacing of the MBA program may not work. He’ll run out of things to take academically. Plus he can go have a pro career. But theoretically it’s an option for a 6th year of college.
