Welcome to the Siena family, coach King!! Saints lose one King to the state of Tennessee and gain another from that State.

The connection, for those curious:
King works closely with Carm on Coaches 4 Change. Think he was the South Region Director.

Well, that’s much more important than being a good recruiter 🙄 Basketball coaching jobs are about who you know. There are 20 people with King’s qualifications. You get your phone call answered in the business by knowing the person you’re calling. Just like Antoni Wyche got the job when Carm was hired… they were long-time friends. Bob Simon had worked with Carm. Fahey had worked for Carm’s mentor (Ed Cooley). Matt Miner went to Carm’s high school. Harley is from the same area and worked with Carm under JC. Bobby Castagna coached Carm. Jonathan Pickett worked in Albany 15 minutes from Siena’s campus and comes well-recommended by the old Albany staff, which Carm knows well. Every single guy Carm has hired has a longer-term relationship with him. And I would bet that’s generally the case if you looked at most schools in the country.

Maybe he can bring the best player off their 5-22 team? Kid might want to play for a winner

Yeah this feels a lot like Michael Baer in that it seems like there should have been better options out there but he could surprise us a la Stormo.

Is there a “ Murray” on that 44 loss roster? Point is we lost 2 pretty good recruiters in Simon and Wyche, is this the guy that’s going to fill that void? It’s a serious question and a question that needs to be asked given what we lost. He may be fine, idk…… im with class of 94, sure it’s may work out but this isn’t what I really expected.

The bigger sell for me on him is the job he did all those years in JUCO. JUCO life is hard… constant recruiting since your roster flips every two years max, and you’re sending kids to D1. He did that at a high level and finally got his D1 opportunity at one of the worst programs in D1. TTU hasn’t been to the NCAAT since 1963. He’s a smart guy, he’s had to grind and be a tough places, and now he gets his best chance at the D1 level. Carm trusts him. I trust him.

If one were to go by the record of a new coach's former school as an indication of his recruiting ability, one would have likewise thought Bob Simon was a shitty recruiter too. Have you seen Maine's record the past several years? A bad record is usually on the head coach, not the recruiting of the assistants. Siena has had a few crappy coaches that couldn't win with some pretty good talent.
