I’m not convinced Iona runs away this thing (at least not by a wide margin) but we’ll see, isn’t Rick due to settle up with the NCAA? Like I’ve said many times I’d rather be the hunter than the hunted! I agree. Love the spot we’re in. We were picked 6th before Carm’s first season.

I'm excited that with 9 new players we are projected at 2nd The title of the article says, "2-11 are completely up for grabs." I dont see that as him picking us 2nd. He may have written about us 2nd out of respect for the last 2 seasons, but he sees the MAAC like most of us....8-9 teams could easily finish 2nd. Green and Gold glasses HJ

So many teams have almost everyone back. FF has its entire team returning. Manhattan has 12 seniors on its roster! Rider getting Vaughn back to team with Murray could be scary. Iona lost a very good backcourt, but bought in a senior pair that are probably better. Monmouth bringing in a legit POY candidate.
We're the wild card IMO. We have a totally revamped roster (9 new guys) that dont know each other. That could cause a slow start. I do think we're very athletic and versatile. Carms defense first teaching will keep us in most games in this league. We'll get after it. We just obviously need some newcomers to step up.
In order of importance: 1)CARPENTER--needs to be the leader. The PG that runs this team and makes his jumper consistently. He's really got to make a jump this year. 2)GAINES--Needs to bring that Big 10 toughness to the team. Defend, and stop, the other teams best wing. Get us easy baskets with his athleticism off the bounce. 3)JOHNSON/KELLIER--one of these guys (both would be nice) really have to establish themselves as our stretch 4 that has to grab at least 6 rebounds a game. We need at least 10 reb a game, combined, from those 2 every night if they share the 40 min at the spot as I anticipate. 4) ROGERS--We need this kid to provide us some consistent 3 pt shooting off the bench at the 2G which I seen him sharing with Hopkins.
It would a nice bonus if one of the 3 freshman emerged as an immediate contributor. Billups is my choice because he's physically ready. McCollum needs to provide Carp a few minutes rest each half at the point, and Owens could be a zone buster for us.

The one thing I’ll say is from what I’ve heard, the chemistry this group has is special. And this is not just from the public comments by Carm. They are super bought in and they have real leadership. Gaines, a three time captain at Northwestern, has been HUGE in that regard. He is going to make an Elijah Burns level of impact both on the floor and off for this team.
The leadership and chemistry stuff gives me confidence they’ll be able to work through having so many new faces.

Not only his stellar production (very efficent) but his leadership. If Gaines has a Burns like impact Siena will have a good chance to contend in the MAAC.

Burns' leadership impact two years ago was immeasurable. The team clearly lacked that presence last year. If Gaines can even remotely come close to that level, I have confidence the skill and athleticism this team possesses will keep us near the top of the standings. And I expect Carm will have us playing our most cohesive basketball late in the season ... and that gives you a chance in March. That's all you can ask for given the turnover we've had.

The one thing I'll say about last year-- I know we had some injury and covid issues, but today Carm said he had a full team for a grand total of 5 days last year..that's right I said 5 days not 5 games

I can’t wait for this season and watch (and enjoy) Carm’s magic coaching. Let’s Go Saints!!!

Ouch!!! Well that's why you play the games. I hope our boys see these predictions. It should be more than enough to motivate them!
