Hello y'all!
Since we are after July 1st deadline to transfer without penalty, I assume we can start guessing how the teams will finish in the MAAC and who wins the tournament in 2022.
Now, I don't believe the rosters are set in stone yet but we can start guessing.
I'll do my predictions tomorrow. Can't wait to read yours!

Siena wins the MAAC regular season and the Tournament this time around. Surprises everyone and even wins a first round NCAA game. That’s all my crystal ball has at the moment. I’ll have more after that first round ncaa victory. 🙂

With 9 new guys that none of us have seen play, I think doing any season prediction threads are going to be really tough! Who knows at this point. If I got to see a few practices and see what these new guys can/can’t do….maybe I could form an accurate opinion, but for now, I have to wait a few months.

Yeah I’m with HJ almost impossible to pick. We’ll probably be picked around 5th or 6th which is fine. We were picked 6th before Carm’s first year.
Let’s sneak up on some people. I like the guys we brought in. If Carpenter/McCallum are good at PG we’ll be right in the mix.

One thing we'll find out this year is how Carm can recruit and how he can coach players he recruited. He won and was successful with players he inherited. Lots of pressure on him to deliver no excuses.
Hopefully a top 3 finish and over .500 record

I like what we got coming in despite so many losses. Will be fun to see what Carm has in mind.

(LOL - Aren't we back at 20 games?)

Alright here we go! Early MAAC preview.
Let me say this conference will be very competitive, while I do believe there is one clear favorite, it will be impossible to pick who will finish last.
I used Verbal Commits and Team's basketball twitter feeds/websites for recruiting data.
I will do each team alphabetically...
Tier 1 are teams 1 to 4, Tier 2 is 5 to 7, Tier 3 is 8 to 11
Fr=Freshman
CANISIUS Returning: Scott Hitchon New: Fr PG Tahj Staveskie, SG JUCO Delevion Jackson VC says 2 spots are left.
Tier 2 team at best, Tier 3 at worst. Whiterspoon's teams are not easy to play against.
FAIRFIELD Returning: Jesus Cruz and Taj Benning New: Fr PG Lewis, Fr SG Long, Fr PF Wilis
The MAAC Runner up in the Championship game still needs to grow more as a program. Tier 2, possible Tier 1. Not sure where Fairfield will be playing their home games next year, building a new arena. Bridgeport?
IONA ++FAVORITE++ New: Fr Wildy PF, Fr Duach SG, Fr Clayton PG, (Tulsa) PG Joiner, (SMU) SG Jolly, (Louisville) F Slazinski Returns: Dylan Van Eyck
In year 2 with Pitino, it just depends how quickly this team can come together and start winning games. They are clear favorite to win this league due to the transfers that Rick was able to get. I will be interested to see how they do in Orlando. Don't forget they have Nelly Junior Joseph and Shema, a 7 footer. Tier 1.
MANHATTAN Returning: Anthony Nelson PG and Warren Williams New: Dambreville SG (Florida Southern), Perez SG (Marquette), Roberts PF (Saint Johns)
Tier 1 due to all the new transfers. If Perez is able to play, this team could definitely compete against Iona for the title. Still are a Tier 1 team without him and it just depends if Masiello can get the most of his players.
MARIST LOST: Bryd to UMBC New: Fr Benton C, Fr Ituka G, Fr Harris G, F Cele (Southern University)
Tier 2/3. Dunne's punishing defense is not easy. Got to see if they can generate offense.
MONMOUTH Returns: Papas New: PG Shavar Reynolds (Seton Hall), F Walker Miller (UNC), Fr Sam Ragan PG, Fr Jaden Doyle SG
Tier 2, possibly a 1. Shavar Reynolds could be the best point guard in the league.
NIAGARA Returns: Roberts SG New: Fr Robert Brown III SG, F Sam Iorio (South Alabama)
Tier 2/3.
QUINNIPAC LOST: Rigoni Back: PF Marfo (Texas AM) New: Fr Brody Limric F, PG Dezi Jones JUCO, Fr Bernie Blunt PG
A lot people think this is a Tier 1 team, I just don't see it. Solid Tier 2. Marfo, of course, will be hard to defend against. They do have Bouknight, who was selected to the MAAC Rookie team. If they get good PG play, Tier 1.
RIDER Back: SG Vaughn (Ole Miss)
With Vaughn and most of the roster coming back this season, this is a very good Rider team. We have to see if they actually do something in the postseason. Tier 1.
SIENA Back: Hopkins New: SG Rogers Cal Poly, SG Gaines Northwestern, SG Johnson Middle Tennessee, SG Kellier Utah, PF Baer Iowa, C Tertsea (JUCO) Freshmen: PG McCollum, SG Owens, SG Billups
With a lot of moving parts for Siena, including coaching staff, this is a good Tier 2 team. If things go their way, it could be a Tier 1. If things go bad, Tier 3. The big question this season what can the PG position do? Can Carm coach and the kids win the important games this year?
SAINT PETERS LOST: Ndefo (as of right now) New: SG Dasher (Portland)
If the offense can improve, Tier 1 or 2 but I could see them as a Tier 3. They will win with defense. The renovated Yantelli Center will open this year.
---Picks--- IONA Favorite TIER 1 RIDER MANHATTAN MONMOUTH
TIER 2 QUINNIPAC FAIRFIELD SIENA
TIER 3 SAINT PETERS CANISIUS MARIST NIAGARA
------
NOTE: My preview will change once rosters are finalized.

Hopefully a top 3 finish and over .500 record how many times are we going to go down this road.....................the only player not recruited and/or previously coached by Carm at any time prior to him arriving back at Loudonville was Camper.........everyone else, he had a prior relationship with, either from a recruiting standpoint or as the assistant coach under JC................they were his players and he coached them to 2 really good seassons.............give the guy his due, if you want to say, can he keep this momentum going? ??, well that would be a fair point............other than that, he has answered the bell with those first 2 yrs under his belt, his guys, his team, his resume...............

It's hard to predict Siena. 9 newcomers...yeesh. I expect Siena will be picked fairly low given the massive losses the program has sustained, and rightly so. Where they actually finish his anyone's guess, but I'm optimistic they can exceed all predictions because of two reasons: one, far greater depth and two, for the first time all the right personnel to run Attach and Finish. Carm's transfer recruiting has been a mixed bag at best with some successes (Hopkins, Stormo) and some bombs (Curry, Tate, Hein). Carm needs to have far more of the former than the latter this season. I still think 4 year player recruiting is Siena's strength, and there I have a lot of confidence in what I am seeing with what on paper looks like one of Siena's most talented frosh classes outside of Moore, Franklin, and Ubiles. McCollum, Owens, and Billups are a promising group with two of the three being 3 star recruits - and if they add Kevin Kalu late, watch out for the '21 recruiting class.

No picks at this juncture, way too many unknowns. All I can say is that I’d rather be the hunter, not the hunted!

Iona has a definite advantage right now with Pitino as coach but behind them the MAAC is still at the low major level. Siena has no business not being in the top two and certainly not behind woeful programs like Manhattan. If we are the 5th or 6th best team in a low major then time to move back to the ARC.
