Good point, Q-Saint! I believe he said that Alabama and Kansas were in that tourney. But then he went on to name teams he was bringing in to MSG. That is where Siena has a big advantage- the TUC. Why not a 2 for 1 deal with schools??? Play two years on the road with them and they come to the TUC??? Each year that you do a 2 for 1 you make getting 14+ home games on the schedule even more difficult. You can make far more money by doing a 1 for 1 with a midmajor and getting paid to go play a guarantee game at a high major than you can scheduling 2 for 1s. The solution to scheduling is to get better midmajors on the schedule in 1 for 1s and you jump on any 1 for 1s you can get with A10 teams. It isn't to do 2 for 1 with A10 teams. The schools that would really draw aren't interested in 2 for 1s with Siena anyways. I know, it has always been a frustration. If you are a good mid-major, the bigs won't play you and if you are a weak mid-major, the bigs want a 3 for 1 deal or a home game for them. So frustrating!!!!!!

Didn't Butler and Gonzaga both say they'd play anyone anywhere? No they don't have too... Edit Addition: Also, kids want to play in front of fans Siena can check that box but they also want a chance to be challenged and playing the big boys will offer that challenge which should help with recruiting.

I read that the Iona-New Mexico game will be played in Vegas. Pitino Sr. is going to be playing a game against his son? Interesting.

An Iona/New Mexico game would draw at least 3,000 to the Arena at the Orleans.

Loyola announced in late August, 2012 that It would join the Patriot League on July 1, 2013. In December, 2012, the MAAC extended invitations to Monmouth and Quinnipiac to join effective July 1, 2013 and both accepted. So the MAAC went from 10 teams to 9 and then to 11 in a matter of 4 months. At the time of acceptance, Siena was in its third post-Fran season and there was little basis for anyone to think that the Saints were going to a higher conference. It makes me wonder whether there was a third school invited or proposed to be invited, and if so whether the MAAC Council of Presidents rejected the third or the third rejected the MAAC.

Wagner was the third school, MAAC said no.

Are you saying Ensor wanted Wagner, or that Wagner wanted the MAAC?
In either event, the question remains why the MAAC would expand to an odd number of schools?

The MAAC had a strong interest in Wagner and vice versa. In the end Wagner couldn't commit to the upgrades the MAAC wanted from their prospects. Whether it was a no vote or Wagner walking away I can't say with 100% certainty. I remember being surprised when only 2 schools were officially announced. Agreed, that odd number of teams is a head scratcher.

Let me take the contrarian view regarding Siena playing P6 teams without equal return visits.
Pitino is seemingly confident that he can defeat an occasional P6 team but in any event believes that playing the bigger program assists in recruiting and program image.
In my opinion Siena should play one away game per year against local P6 program (ie. UConn, Boston College, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Villanova, etc.). If Siena can get a 2 for 1 from any of Therese schools then all the better, but the reality is that the P6 schools are not going to give Siena a 1 for 1 series. Siena’s refusal to accept less than a 1 for 1 will cause it to play out of conference basketball lightweights like Norfolk State, Towson, Cal Poly, Yale, Harvard, Holy Cross, et al.

Play BC for a win every year sounds good to me.

Pitino has hundreds of more contacts than Carm does. His coaching tree alone allows him to get these games that seem to elude us. Iona plays in Disney and will get 3 or 4 high major games, just like we did. The only 2 games he supposedly has next year that are P6, are BYU (ex-player Mark Pope is the coach) and Seton Hall (ex-assistant at Louisville Kevin Willard). Wouldnt be surprised to see NC State (Keatts) and UCLA (Cronin) on their schedule in the near future too since they both worked for RP.
